Question about Kenmore 25512/ 25513 Progressive Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

My floorpiece keeps turning on and off when I try and vacuum. It almost seems like it is shorting out, but it isn't. I suspect it is something to do with the handle piece attaching to the floor piece.

You are exactly correct.

What it is exactly is the hose connection to the power nozzle. The plug on the handle of the hose should be flush with the plastic piece below it. To correct this, you can open the handle and push the plug back into place. What I normally recommend is a super glue of somesort, like krazy glue.

remove the plug, glue into place and make sure that the recepticle or plug is out far enough to make a solid connection.

Good luck

What to do if my vaccum triped the circut breaker and sparked and now has no power

Ha! I am not an electrician, but I would suspect a short circuit somewhere in the machine and would seek professional advice / repair.

To investigate, you could, if confident of your ability to safely troubleshoot electrical equipment, unplug the machine and see if something is caught in the machine. It might be possible for you to take it apart in the area where it sparked, and see if there is dirt, grass, or something stuck in there and bridging across wires to cause the short -- it might be a buildup of dust and dirt from use. Clean that out, reassemble, and try the machine again.

Bristles quit rotating and smelled like something was burning. It isn't the belt that turns the bristles. Can't afford a repairman, can you help me fix it?

Belt can reamin intact but still jam and burn. It won't necessarily break. I suggest you remove the bottom of the vacuum where the bristles spins and where the belt is located. You may have something jammed in there. You may need to remove the bristle to get the belt out. Inspect the belt and replace after clearing the obstruiction.

Light keeps flashing on top of canister of my Hoover Wind Tunnel but I emptied and cleaned it well. It sounds right when I turn it on then it goes into this sound like something is stuck but there...

sounds like a possible plug ,then when you first start it up the plug gets stuck a gain.
try taking hose off the unit and running water through hose .if water flows good ,check and see if lid is secure when closed.

Beater bar not turning

The number one cause of the "beater bar" (or brush roller) not rotating is a broken belt.

The number two cause of brushes not rotating is that something is jammed & wound around the roller, preventing it from rotating.

For the belt: If you remove the screws holding the bottom plate, you should see one (or maybe two) short, wide rubber belt(s) that goes around the roller.

If this is broken, it's easy to replace. They do break because of age and wear. One of the leading causes of breakage is when the roller gets something - a curtain cord, for example - wrapped around it. If you don't immediately shut off the vacuum & remove the cord, the belt will continue to try to turn the roller (which can't turn), and this generates a lot of heat in just a few seconds.

You can find belts at places like Sears, Home Depot, or your local vacuum shop.

For just the roller: Turn the vacuum over on its side and inspect the roller. Will it turn? Can you see something wound around it that's jamming it? While you here, take a minute and clean the roller... including using scissors or a knife to snip & remove wound hairs & threads. A clean and healthy roller will help to keep your belt happy!

Need Kirby Generation 3 Vacuum cleaner manual. Vacuum is not picking up dirt from floor. Seems to have enough suction to inflate the bag, but when you check the suction under the vacuum, there seems to...

If your brush roll is turning and your bag is not overly full, then the only other thing it can be is a clog where the bag connects to the vacuum. Turn the plastic part out away from vacuum and lift off to see if you have something clogging it. It would have to be something big, but not so big that it could not get past the fan. As a rule of thumb, KIRBY never clogs. I suspect that your belt is stretched out and your brush roll is not turning while on the carpet so the brush roll is just in the way rather than brushing your carpet to pick up dirt.

THE LARGE BELT KEEPS SLIPPING OFF. It doesn't seem to matter what I'm vacuuming - carpet or hardwood.

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au there are 2 basic causes for this to happen.
1. The belt has become stretched over time (can be as short as a few months). This will need a new vacuum belt i can supply these for all vacuum cleaners at my website.
2. The drive shaft has actually moved slightly - this can happen when 1 or more of the mounting points for the motor cracks or breaks allowing the motor to turn slightly in the housing.
Basically i would suggest try changing the belt for a new one before attempting to fix the mountings as that it a bit of a tricky job. Unless it is under warranty in which case take it back to your dealer and let them deal with it.
* please note * belts are not covered under warranty so change that first otherwise you will get a repair bill for something that is really easy to fix.
Hope this helps.
Happy Vacuuming! :)

Dyson Animal, lost suction and bypass valve seems to be loose

Dear terrygivens, 2-17-2009 4:12am EST (USA)

Most suction problems are caused by a clog from picking up something you probably didn't see or if you have pets an accumulation of pet hairs!

To clear it out take a metal coat hanger and unbend it til it's straight, then bend the end and tape it so when you push it through to unclog your vac it doesn't rip the hose.

Push the coat hanger in from the bottom brush area through the opening where the suction is. Also push it in and out anywhere else you can......You'll probably find something clogged....keep working it til it loosens and intermittently turn on the suction.

If you have a second vac with a hose, use that hose for suction on the clogged vac!

This should do it!

Power surge issue

This is a fault in the motor, could be a shorted turn in the motor windings. This has nothing to do with fuses.
