That printer is fubar and needs to be junked. And don't bother asking HP to help you because they only help during warranty period. Otherwise they refer you to a forum or suggest you buy another printer - an HP of course.

Ink light keeps blinking on hp deskjet 5650. Followed HP's directions for cleaning cartridges, as the utility that came with the printer does not work on Vista, but still will not print.

Check 16V leg of power supply. I had same problem, but since the carridge and lights worked I assumed power supply was OK. Tried all kinds of things but nothing worked so I replaced the HP5650 with another one. Same problem. Changed power supply and both printers worked. When I put a DVM to the original PS I had the 32V leg but the 16V leg was dead. Who would have thought?

I have an hp deskjet 3930 that wont print.. the light on the front just blinks. so far I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer i've updated the driver and rebooted the computer but nothing...

If this printer is new to you, take a look at the power supply that came with it. Make sure it's rated as it should be for this particular printer. Do this by comparing it to what the manual specifies. If the ratings is wrong, there's your problem. If the rating is correct, the power supply has probably gone bad. HP and Compaq both use a blinking light to provide this designation.

One way or the other, a trip to your local thrift store is almost certain to provide you access to a replacement power supply at a low cost. There again, you might just locate a replacement printer. People give these things away on Craigslist all the time because, of course, replacing the ink cartridges proves to be surprisingly expensive.

Good luck

Lexmark z55, 5 paper feed blinks and 2 blinks from the power button, printer does not respond at all, pattern keeps repeating.

Please follow the instructions given below:
1. Disconnect the USB cable and the printer power cable.
2. Please disconnect the power supply from the back of the printer.
3. Then remove the cartridges from the printer.
4. Please reconnect the power supply back and turn on the printer.
5. If lights are blinking then printer encoder strip is most likely the problem. Unplug the power from the printer. Open the front cover and move the cartridge carrier to the center. You should see a white ribbon cable, a thin plastic strip and a black belt with teeth.
6. The thin plastic strip is the encoder strip. It rides in a sensor on the back of the cartridge carrier that you will not be able to see. Reach in with the first finger of either hand and carefully strum the strip as if playing a guitar.
7. The strip will need to be lowered slightly and brought towards you slightly. Please be careful not to break the strip or your printer will not function. Once you believe the strip is set correctly, plug the power back and let us know if the lights are still blinking.
8. If you cannot repair the strip, please let us know so that we can assist you further.

Please Note: Fixing the encoder strip is a delicate procedure. During the troubleshooting, if the strip breaks, you will not be able to use the printer.

9. However, if lights are not blinking then try inserting one cartridge at a time and check if you can see any lights blinking. If light blinks with one cartridge then that cartridge is defective.
