Pdf files garbled

The PDF, or portable document format, file bridges the gaps between many software programs. Someone using one program to create a file need not worry that his intended recipient have that same program, because PDFs just require a free software program to open. On occasion, it may seem like a PDF is just as hard to open as a native file created in that proprietary software, but one of a variety of factors may contribute to the unreadability problem.

Software
One of the most common reasons a PDF is unreadable -- and the easiest to fix -- is that the person trying to open the PDF doesn't have the software to do so. To open a PDF requires the free downloadable program Reader, created and distributed by Adobe, which also makes the PDF-creation software Acrobat. A person who doesn't have Reader installed won't see the familiar red-and-black PDF icon; they'll see a white box symbolizing that the computer doesn't know how to read the file. b> Zoom b> Although it seems quite obvious, a person's screen resolution may have everything to do with why a PDF appears unreadable. Since PDFs are often scans or saved files of standard 8.5-by-11-inch paper, small fonts and occasionally handwriting can get be scaled to tiny dimensions when the sheet is viewed full . Zoomed out, a heavily typed or scrawled PDF may appear as a bunch of jumbled black dots and lines instead of the clear text it would be when zoomed in. Conversion b> Even if you have the Reader software installed, trying to open a PDF in a program that doesn't allow it will cause problems. For example, the Reader software doesn't let you edit a PDF -- you need Acrobat for that -- but you can still use other programs to do things such as redacting, or making black lines to obscure information. You can open a PDF in a program such as Adobe Photoshop and have the PDF be completely readable. On the other hand, if you try to open a PDF in Windows Paint, the operating system's native graphics tool, it will be unreadable because Paint does not accept PDF files. b> Missing Elements b> Something that appears perfectly readable on one person's screen may look entirely unreadable on another, solely because of what's missing from the file. In some cases, a PDF that looks jumbled is a result of missing fonts. While it may seem simple to just create a PDF from whatever document you're working on, if the person who receives your PDF doesn't have those fonts installed, the PDF may be unreadable. You can combat this one of two ways -- try to use universal fonts, such as Helvetica; or take the extra steps to embed the fonts into the PDF. This requires use of Distiller, also an Adobe product. An unreadable PDF may also be missing the password or certificate to render the document readable. Contact the person who created the PDF to inquire whether he locked it with an encryption. Encryption is removable with a key or password. Hope this helps.

HI GUDPM JUST WANNA ASK HOW TO DOWNLOAD FONTS IN NOKIA N7O????

Changing N70 Fonts f you are one of those who do not like the plain default font or if you are a "dare to be different" kind of person then this one is for you! Change the fonts to whatever you have available or whatever suits your taste. Get ready for a little facelift for your phonemag-glass_10x10.gif smile.gif

Some background information: Nokia N70 does not use TTF font files, instead it uses GDR file which is a compilation of all the fonts that will be used by the phone. What we will do in the following steps is select the fonts that we want to use, use an application to compile the GDR file containing those fonts and finally uploading the font to the handset. Alright, time to begin.

#1. Download and install GDR crreator Download it here. http://www.crazylittleworld.com/n70/egdrsetup.zip
#2. Run the application. Dont worry about the funny language. I will explain how to use it to make working fonts.
#3. You will see various tabs in the application. Each tab is there to set the font for a certain part of the phone. The phone preview on the left shows the part where the font belongs. Navigate till you get familiar with what is under each tab.

#4. Under each tab, click browse to select the font, set the size (defaults should work fine unless your font is too small or too big) and select whether you want just the basic character set (ASCII/Unicode) or want all the characters + symbols from that font (Symbian/Unicode). From my experience Symbian/Unicode is only needed for Text Messaging (2nd tab in the application). See the image below for descriptions on application.

Easy GDR

#5. After you've set the font, click the "Compile Font" button (see image below) to add the font to the GDR and have a look at "Preview Font" window to get an idea of what the font will look like on the phone.

Easy%20GDR

#6. Finally, click the "Compile to GDR" button and save the file. Name it as you please.

Easy%20GDR

#7. Now transfer the GDR file to your N70 via Bluetooth. Create a folder named "Fonts" in C:\System and copy the file from inbox to the Fonts folder (like we did with the Screensaver files above). In the end you should get this - C:\System\Fonts\<filename>.gdr

#8. Delete the GDR file from Messaging -> Inbox and restart the phone.

#9. Congratulations, you've just installed new fonts on your N70. quote.gif

I have hindi fonts in my system but cann't type.It always show spelling error. can't open hindi sites also

Hi,

Please try to download and setup the Hindi Shusha Fonts fonts as described below:

  1. Need to download the following three Shusha font files to your machine:

click on each of the following links, one by one.

But, before clicking, read the following ...

In the best case scenario, your browser would first ask you if you want "open" or "save" the file that is to be downloaded. Choose "save". Your browser then would open up another window allowing you to select the folder where "save"ing is to take place. Select the folder C:\WINDOWS\FONTS and let the process begin. Go to step 3 below.

In the worst case scenario, your browser downloads the file, modifies the name of the file by appending some characters to the original name of the file, and stores it on your disk in some "Temporary Internet Files" folder! You are given no opportunity to select the folder of your choice, and you have no idea where the file is stored on your disk! All you may see, after the download, is a window with shusha font characters (the font file in an opened state) with two buttons on the top, one labeled as "Done", and the other as "Print". If that happens, just click on the "Done" button on that window. But, you are not done yet! You need to find where the file is!
If we are lost and do not know where the downloaded file is on hard disk, how do we find out where it is? One way is to use the "Find" utility. (Click on "Start", found on bottom left of your screen, then "Find", then on "Files or Folders...", and then typing filename-to-find in the "Named:" box. For example, you can type "Shusha*" if you would like to have the list of all files whose names begin with "Shusha")

The scenario, between the best and the worst, is when all downloaded files automatically go to some preselected folder like "Desktop" or "My Download Files". In that case, you need to make a note of the folder name.

The three Hindi Shusha Font Files:
Now click on each of the following links, one by one and save them in the C:\WINDOWS\FONTS directory.
Shusha.ttf

Shus_02.ttf

Shus_05.ttf
  1. Once these three files are on your machine, they must be placed (copied or moved) in window's font directory:
    C:\WINDOWS\FONTS
How do we do that? Well, there are always more than one way to do the same thing. Simplest way, probably, is to use Windows Explorer (the File Manager) program.
Open the Windows Explorer program (its icon is a blue color magnifying glass placed on a yellow folder).
Locate the three files you have downloaded.
One by one (or all three together), select the file, and right drag (right mouse button kept pressed while dragging) the three files into the window's FONTS directory. Right drag would open up a small menu providing choices for either copying or moving the file or even canceling the operation. You may either choose to copy or to move the files.
  2. You should now make sure that your Shusha fonts are in the FONTS directory. Restarting the machine to make your new fonts operational may not be necessary, but it could be the last resort. Usually, Refreshing or closing/reopening the program (program like Windows Explorer) does the trick. If you do not see the Shusha font files in FONTS folder, try closing and reopening the Windows Explorer program.
  3. Check out the programs like Word or FrontPage. Look into the list of all fonts in these programs to see if our Shusha fonts are included there. If yes, we got it made!
  4. Now you are ready to write your own poetry in Hindi Shusha Fonts!
In Word or in FrontPage, select Shusha font from the list of fonts.
You have a English Keyboard that is meant for English alphabet. You have to use this keyboard, but you want to produce Hindi characters. No problem! What you need is a little "Mapping" help! How about having a KeyBoard Layout to produce Hindi characters?

Click here for the map of keyboard layout picture.
  5. and the map should open up on your screen. You can have this page printed, so that you can keep it attached to your computer. And if you love Hindi, it will not take long to get used to this "Mapping"!
Hope this helps.

All the best.

Fonts not installed

Fonts are typically available either for free or for a fee.

Only fonts that are visible in your C:\WINDOWS\Fonts Directory will be available to print.

You can google fonts and find more if you are looking.

Also, depending on the program you are using, you can save as a .pdf to print and this will "pack " you fonts into the document. You cna also use the "prepare for commercial printing" option in MS Publisher to store the fonts in the file.

Bottom line, if the font isnt installed, you cant use it.

You may be getting this error if the document came from someone who has the font but you dont. If that's the case, tell your friend you need the fonts. Just copy them out of the E:\WINDOWS\Fonts directory to your disc.

That should do it.

Does everyone else have office 2007? If not, they need the Office 2007 compatibility pack installed. (free from microsoft)
If they do not have the same fonts installed, it will mess up formatting. You need to save it as a PDF or a picture if you do not want formatting/fonts to change.
