Question about Maytag Washing Machines

6 Answers

My son put in a full load, water started to fill up and then everything stopped. I then removed his load, manually scooped out all the water, opened the top panel, located the fuse which vaguely showed 1A 250V (not clear at all), removed and replaced it with a new one, but when I plugged in the power cord, nothing happened. Checked the new fuse and found out that it's blown off again. it seems like something shorted, but what can it be???? (motor??, switches???) Any suggestion? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

There seems to be a common problem with Maytag washers where the lid switch becomes faulty and continues to blow fuses. You should get the lid switch kit for your washer and replace it. If you provide the model number of your machine I can help you find a source for the part.

If the control panel fuse keeps blowing then you need to replace the panel.

How can you get a washer smelling good?

First of all this mainly happens when you use cold water washing, the plastic bowl(s) become slightly porous over time & the dirt from clothes adhere to the area between the inner & outer bowls.

To clean & remove smell.

1. Put washer on hot wash, high level & let it fill with HOT water.

2. Stop washer, put in an old towel.

3. Add a bucket of hot water (This allows the water level to be above the scum mark inside machine.

4. Add washing soda to the bowl (double the amount it says on the packet).

5. Start washer & allow to run to the end of the first wash cycle.

6. Stop washer & allow to sit for a few hours.

7. After the few hours, start washer & allow it to run the rest of the full cycle.

you can do the same procedure with Vinegar.

you may have to repeat procedure a few times.

TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN YOU NEED TO DO THIS PROCEDURE ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS.

The worst case scenario, you will have get a technician to remove the inner bowl & manually clean these areas.

Constant filling and siphoning of water sans cycle.

Remove the front panel and open the control panel. Check all wires for loose or broken connections.

Won't fill

Try putting the clothes in and filling it with a bucket via the top opening (Cold water will do)

If it starts and washes then it is the fill valve which has gone faulty , if you put in the normal fill level and then exceed by say another bucket full, that indicates it is the pressure switch.

Ps

You might try taking the fill hose off the back of the amchine and clean out the small filter which is just inside the opening

Agitator starts at begining of cycle before washer is full

Please be carful as running the agitator without enough water will overheat and kick out the motor, however it should be ok when it resets itself.
Yes, the machine should stop agitating when you lift the lid so this too is part of the problem.
After looking at the print I can only suggest that the cam contacts in the timer ( contacts 12 and 14) that start the motor are burned and stuck together.

Washer won't agitate, drain or spin

quite possible that the fuse has gone bad again, if that s the case i would recommend replacing the fuse, and the lid switch.
