Question about Vizio Televison & Video
The device you connected to your television determines whether or not you get 1080i or 1080p. The television automatically shows the programming in 1080i or 1080p depending upon what the connected equipment is set to. There is no way to change this on the television itself. Currently the only way to get 1080p is with a bluray player or bluray on demand programming from the cable/satellite companies. HD on cable and satellite is 1080i for now.

Not sure about your exact model, but for most HDTVs, you cannot set the resolution in the TV itself, the TV will automatically adjust to whatever signal is sent to it.
Note that Many HDTVs cannot do 1080p over component video inputs, only HDMI. Also, check for firmware updates for your TV, as manufacturers seem to be are often fixing bugs with things like HDMI input detection and so forth.

Nothing broadcast in 1080p....nothing. You probably just need to set your blu-ray player to output 1080p most will default to low resolution. A 1080i max TV is very rare these days.

SOURCE: how do you change my
You can't change the resolution on a set. That is done by the broadcast companies. Your set is capable of receiving it but if they don't send it, you don't see it. There's no emulation for that.
