Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

Replacing bellows(boot) on Whirlpool Duet washer and I can't get the control console off. I don't want to force it and end up breaking something. I removed the screw in the recess behind the dispenser drawer and I have released the tab on the right side behind the console. I have also inserted a putty knife beneath the console and pushed it in slightly while pulling outward on the console, but I cannot get it to pop off. Please help!

Solution #1 by Lumpy816 rocks!  Only point I'd add is that since the clamps are rings, with the rear clamp in particular you may find the screw somewhere else along the circumference. Mine was on the left middle--recommend (slowly because one end of the screw is sharp) feeling around for the screw part of the clamp.

Don't go this route. There is a clamp on the front. You can pry this off with a small flat head. Reach up and to the right and there is a screw on the rear clamp. A short phillips screw driver will let you take the rear clamp off. Re-seat the new boot. Tighten rear clamp. work the boot over the inlet on the upper left hand corner. For the front spring, insert a small flat head at the botom of the clamp and run a pair of needle nose plier around to help re-seat the clamp.

After changing the bellow on a whirlpool duet, I have no power to the unit and the power button is stuck down. Not sure if there is a switch that is not activated when the control panel was put back on?

If the power button is stuck I would say it was damaged while you were replacing the boot or something is not lined up correctly behind the console face. Unfortunately that power button is not just an individual switch. It is part of the user interface.
I would remove the top lid 3-4 screws at the back top and lift up and pull back. and see what I could see from there.

Hi, I have the same problem on my Whirlpool Duet GHW9100LQ1.

The following link explains how to replace the bellow on a Whirpool Duet:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385211-replacing_door_bellow_whirlpool_duet

The part number for the bellow is 8181850.

Searspartdirect.com carries it for about $81.
Appliancepartspros.com carries it for about $76.
Repairclinic.com carries it for $95.
Pcappliancerepair.com carries it for about $73.

Two other items you may also consider are the bellow clamps (if yours are damaged). The rear bellow clamp part number is 8182210. The front bellow clamp part number is 8182211.

If you have any questions about this repair, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Tear in bellows on whirlpool duet sport

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, then the following link will guide you through the necessary steps required to replace a door bellow on a Whirlpool Duet:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385211-replacing_door_bellow_whirlpool_duet

I apologize, but I do not have any pictures to upload of the procedure. However, if you go to searspartsdirect.com and type in your model number, there are some excellent exploded view diagrams of your washer to assist in dis-assembly and repair. The bellow and components are listed under the "Door and Latch Parts" heading. The part number for door bellow is 8182119.

An alternate method of replacing the bellow is to remove the top panel of the washer and work through the door opening. However, the method described in the link provided, offers the best access.

If you have questions, if this is not your make and model number, or if you require additional assistance, please let me know.

PS Appliancepartspros.com has the door bellow for a better price.

Replacing bellows on Whirlpool Duet HT model GHW9400PL0

I have not seen a tech sheet (or service manual) that details how to remove one of these. Basically, once you have your replacement boot (availible at local parts stoares or from the manufactures web site on line), You can follow these steps:
1 - Remove the front clamp. (a silver peice of wire with a spring at the botom) A small flat head screwdriver will let you pull it off.
2 - You will have a clamp on a hose that comes from the dispenser to the boot on some models that you will have to disconnect.
3 - There is a second clamp on the tub side itself. Remove it by using a short phillips head screw driver to unscrew it.
4 - remove the boot
5 - Reverse the procedure making sure to line the new boot up at the top. (there is a arrow that needs to be ligned up on the tub and the boot.
Taking the lower front panel off can give you a bit more room to work. You can take it off by removing the screws at it's bottom.

Duet washer leaking

If the leak started occurring after the bellow was replaced, and it's on the left hand side of the door, I suspect the bellow is not seated around the fill tube all the way. I have experienced this problem before. Check the fill tube where it comes in by the door. The rubber should be seated back far enough to allow the tube to fill into the tub without obstruction. It could be that the fill tube is forcing water BEHIND the bellow and leaking into the washer and on to the floor. To answer your question, "YES", replacing the bellow could have caused your leak.
