I can no longer update my Mac G5 from the handheld. I suspect the update cable because it has three pins on the right shorter than the other two.

Replace the cable. That seems to be the issue here.

The pins should be the same length, the two longer have pulled out. You need to replace the cable.

You could test the cable with a cheap electronics tester, also you could goto a apple store, they have great customer service Im sure they would let you test it there, and also offer possible solutions for the problem.

Downloading does not work on mac g5

Hello
A download problem can come from multiple things:
- It can be the navigator (Safari or firefox for example) that needs to be updated- It can be a permission problem on the system: please check and repair the permissions using disk utility:
Open /Applications/Utilities/Disk UtilitySelect "SOS" TabClick: "Repair permissions" button Wait until this is finishedReboot the computer
- It can also come from a full hard drive that no longer accepts downloads! To check which file takes all the place, I suggest Disk Inventory X
Hope this helpsDamien

My Imac G5 has a long tone and flashing sleep light upon pressing the power button. It also no longer sleeps. When I put it to sleep it immediately shuts down and doesn't go through the normal shut down...

The long tone and flashing light has to do with your firmware. If your mac boots up, you could try to download the latest firmware update and install it. But more than likely you will need to take this one into the shop.

Cant connect my G5 to the Router to get internet

two things to consider. There are two different types of Ethernet cables out there. Perhaps you have a one way cable for the second one. To test this, unhook the working cable from the mac that gets internet and then hook that one up to the one that doesn't get it. See if it sees the network after a minute. The other issue might be in the Operating System. You might need to make sure that they are both up to date with all of the latest updates installed. (I know, hard to do with out an internet hook up.)
Lastly, make sure you are plugging in the cable to the right place on the back of the router. Seems silly, but some of the best have accidentally put it into a link plug to connect several routers rather than an actual Ethernet plug.

I need to connect a Nikon LS2000 Slide Scanner to a Power Mac G4

I originally had the same problem but with a G5. Since Nikon never updated the software for the LS2000 to work with Apple I ended up buying a FR1SX adapter from RATOC Systems: http://www.ratocsystems.com/english/products/FR1SX.htmlwhich connects the SCSI pins to a Firewire cable. Then I purchased the VueScan software from http://www.hamrick.com/vsm.html. The scanner worked for several years with this combination.
