From this official link select your operating system and download your sound card device drivers. Install them and check the results. Note that there are no available Windows 7 drivers. If this is your case, download the drivers closer to your system (Vista or Vista 32-bit or Vista 64-bit). After the download finish, right click on the downloaded file, choose properties, go at the compatibility tab, check the compatibility with the version you just download, hit apply, ok. Run the file as administrator in order to install the drivers and check the results.

Sound not coming in win xp sp3 even after updating correct sound driver?

Do you still have the unknown device in device manager? If so, you need to install a different driver. If not, go into device manager, expand Sound, Video, and Game Controllers. For each device under that heading, right-click the device, then click update driver software, choose "Search Automatically..." It will then go to the windows update site and see if there is a driver there that is listed as more recent, and it will install that driver, if such a driver is found. If that doesn't work, make sur ethat y ou manually find the correct sound driver installer, and then right-click whichever device obviously represents the sound hardware driver, and click Uninstall. Reboot afterward. Then reinstall the audio driver. If that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall windows.

It seems to me that the problem might be a driver issue. Try to restart it, if the problem remains, go to control panel, disable the driver, reboot again and return to control panel and enable the driver again. That might work.

Computer can't find sound device

START - My Computer (RIGHT CLICK) - Properties - Hardware Tab - Device Manager button - click on the sound, video and game controllers - on the drop down menu you should see sound codec - either right click and UPDATE DRIVER - or delete sound codec’s and restart, XP will install suitable sound drivers.
If that doesn’t work then try installing sound drivers from the computer manufacturer.
If you have a big X on the sound codec or your third party drivers than it’s a hardware issue.
If replacing the drivers’ doesn’t work then it's a hardware issue. If you have onboard sound card then you will need to replace the mother board. I hope it's under warranty.
