I had the same problem and sent it back to be replaced. If you send it in, don't send it to the Thomson location in Texas. Call RCA and find out where to ship it to for a replacement.

My RCA Opal M4204-A refuses to turn on. It acts like it's going to, but
it only shows the "quot;initializing"; screen and then goes
black. It shows that the player is still on, but it never loads. Or
even show the loading screen.I connect it to my computer and it plays
the music on there and it says it's charged. What do I do?
i have windows XP

reseting does not work and Windows Vista will not recognize the opal when its connected via USB, so now this thing is completely useless...

Same problem.... If you don't have your receipt from purchase, then you're screwed. I will avoid RCA like the plague from now on. I would like to find out how to reset this piece of **** or find some software utility to fix it. RCA says take it back to store. Wal-Fart says need the receipt.
What-ya-gonna-do?
