First check the vga cable, video cards of your pc.if all of these are ok open your LCD monitor check the power board for boated capacitor, open secondary pico fuse or fuseble resistor, replace it with the same value. The defective lcd panel can cause of dim dispaly but the power is ok.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed DELL (BenQ makes Dell MONITORS) monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague http://www.badcaps.net
Check the cable on your monitor through video card if there is loose connection. Check also the video card by replacing it with your extra video card if you have. I think the problem is not the monitor but the video card.
Check four 5707, two 9204, and one bel 3A slow blow fuse. Also re-solder all cap and transformer. It's quiet common on benq and Dell(benq OEM) 17 LCD. For detail google "benq 5707", sure you can found. Good luck
IT seems you are not technically trained in electronics. In this case it's difficult to explain via this board,Best you find someone to fix it for you,you can try contacting Benq Support locally.
