SOURCE: punch he 4 ohm 200 rms 400 peak

the winding on the voice coil are coated with a varnish to keep the from shorting to each other. If the sub is drivin to hard or the voice coil is not vented properly. the voice coil windings will get so hot the varnish will melt or someting get sticky. When you quit playing the sub, say overnight the varnish cools and acts like a glue and will cause the voice coil to stick to the basket of the speaker. Repair just would not be worth the money or the time. Plus when a speaker reaches thid stage. It could eaisily fall to short and burn out your amplifier.

SOURCE: how can i make my jl audio 12w3-d6 into a 4 ohms

it depends if the amp is mono or stereo and if it is bridged. if it is bridged the amp cant handle the speaker the best way is to lower the level on the amp or connect it to only one channel. also you might want to check your ground cable use a thick one and make sure its making good contact with the chassis. this happened to me. luck

How do you hook up the speaker wire to the ab sub out and what is the best way to hook them up at what ohm

Not sure what you mean by AB but being that this is a monoblock or 1 channel amplifier you can only hook it up 1 way. Verify the polarity from your speaker box. + to + and - to -. As far as your impedance is concerned this amp is stable to 1.5 ohms but for this case we will assume you have two 4 ohm subwoofers. When you parallel these together you will have a total effective load of 2 ohms on the amplifier. This is a stable operating impedance for the amp.

Other impedance options are:

two 8 ohm speakers = 4 ohm load
three 8 ohm speakers = 2.66 ohms

If you have dual voice coil subwoofers then parallel the coils on each sub + to + and - to -. Depending on the impedance of each sub you may then have to wire the individual subwoofers in series. Here is an example.

2 dual voice coils with 4 ohm taps

Each subwoofer with the coils in parallel would be a 2 ohm load if you were to then parallel the two subwoofers together you would have 1 ohm total load on your amp. This is BAD for your amp. Your option is to run the subwoofers in series.

To run the speakers in series is simple. The + from one speaker and the - from the other will be connected to the amp. The other + and - from the speakers will be connected together.

Here is a wiring diagram from kicker.

Ok i have a jl500/1v2 amp with 2 w6v2 subs and i haveing a problem dont no if the amp is two much for the subs becouse i turn the amp to get more tump and the subs pop and the yellow light filkes so i turn...

its real simple. your under powered.

your W6s RMS at 500 watts EACH and your sending em 250RMS (half what they need)
The 'pop' your hearing is the failure to supply enough power to draw the cone back in time and collides with the next wave of sound.

prove it?
drive a single W6 with your 500/1 bridged.
i'll bet your pop goes away.

long term, get another 500/1 or jump up to a 1000/1v2.

I also HIGHLY recommend JL's in-line audio cleaner. If i recall it was like 60 bucks but waaaay worth it. makes sure that theres no distortion in the source input to your amp(s), which...keeps your subs from trying to reproduce transients and delivers only clear signal to your subs void of all clipping signals. Its an active electronic compoent.

PS: if you are pushing 12W6's, i had the same setup once...I had W3s connected to my 500/1 and upgraded to the W6s...had the same issue your describing, and then got the 1000/1. happy ending.

I cant get my jl audio w6 10s to give off much bass with the jl audio 500/1 amp

here is a manual for your subwoofers: http://mobile.jlaudio.com/pdfs/8-12W6_BDS.pdf

use the wiring diagram for 1.5? (1.5ohm) with 2 speakers. the diagram for 3 speakers will not work, because it would bring the load down to 1 ohm, and the amp cannot go below 1.5 ohm.

to set up the amp:

under "preamp output section", on the "output mode" switch, select "amp filter"

to set up the levels: start with the amp gain pretty far down- with the input voltage on low for line level outputs from the deck, and on high for speaker outputs from the deck. now turn your cd deck as far up as it will go until it distorts, then turn the cd deck down to just where it stops distorting. now, you can start to turn up the gain on the amp.

on the filters, youll prolly want the cutoff filter around 100hz @ 24db slope. start with the infrasonic filters off, but, if you do get into them, try centering between 30 and 60hz on either, and, possibly dropping the cutoff filter to 80hz.

Got jl300/2 amp confused which subwoofer sounds good

Hello drsubhakar26,

JL W6's will perform well with from 150-600 watts RMS. W7's with from 150-500 watts. Less expensive Alpine Type R's work OK with from 200-500 watts RMS. Either of the brands will sound good. None of them will perform to their full potential with 300 watts RMS. Powering any sub with a 2-channel amp is a compromise. A monoblock is more efficient.

Hope this helps.

I need to find a good sub box for my 10 inch JL w6

Hello ama1228a,

You did not say what type of vehicle the box is to be mounted into. Many times, where the box goes dictates the shape and size you have to work with.

That JL W6 will work OK in a sealed box with as little as .625 CuFt of volume and a ported box with .75 CuFt, so you have lots of choices.

Here's a link to the PartsExpress box page. These are Goldwood boxes, so don't let the prices scare you away. They really are built well, and one of them will make your JL sound good.

Hope this helps.

It will work fine. This amp is stable to 1.5 Ohms, but is designed to put out about the same amount of power at 2 or 4 Ohms (unique).
