Skype has a bad habbit of crashing and not accepting usernames and passwords. uninstall it and install the lates version. reboot after uninstall. that should fix it.
The problem is not accepting username and password. The actual problem is the when I try to run Skype by double-clicking the icon on the desktop, or from the program list, it does not start at all.
Have you tried reinstalling it? Like I said. it also has a bad habit of crashing. Skype uses a virtual modem driver to make calls via VOIP across the Internet. if it doesn't receive a response from Skype then it will not run. Uninstall from the remove programs or the shortcut from the Skype folder in your start menu. Reboot, then download latest version and reinstall. Reboot again. let me know if that helps.
what operating system are you running? windows (what version) or mac?
i am using Windows XP
ok here is your problem. even though you are running the uninstaller skype unfortunatly leave much of its setting and registry files. as much as it sucks. if you read the entire EULA you gave it permission to store itself on your computer for use of your network and bandwidth for other skype users. you are going to need a program that force's the complete uninstall of skype. After researching the issue I really cant find a free program to do this for you. but what i have found in a program called perfect uninstaller. if you are a web guru then i am sure you can find a copy without paying for it. but in my opinion if you truly like the software buy it. you can try other free force uninstaller's before you purchase one. the other option is to manually remove it while logged into safe mode. But unless you are familiar with regedit I do not recommend this as you will probably crash windows. I did however find a few of the folder called skype phone that you should manually delete as well as uninstall woise from the add/remove programs as this is the skype network subsystem. I have looked everywhere for a definate free way to remove all the skype components there just seems to be no easy way to completly remove it. some anti-virus companies have even listed skype as a virus type program that is difficult to remove. I hope this helps you.
