everything warns NOT to install the card before the software. The software loaded fine, but when i insert the aircard, i get the message "GC83 is not communicating. please reinsert the card"

When i do that, the screen goes to all vertical lines and the computer locks up. i'm far from getting online. the card won't even talk to the software.

it's and acer 5100 running vista

The owners manual has nothing under troubleshooting remotely like this message. tried the drivers already. same message.

  • motiveflow Jun 13, 2008

there's no physical damage to the slot.

i tried updating the drivers for the slot and there was no change.

i don't have any other way to test the aircard.

i will have to assume that it is defective.

Cause you can update the expansion slots drivers. but i would also if you can test this card on another machine or a friends laptop to ensure its not defective.. but if the card works properly then upgrade the drivers of everything, i.e. expansion slot, processor, firmware for the aircard, and the wireless manager. cause what i can tell after talking to tech support for sony erickson. they said it sounds as if the expansion slot is not working or the card is defective. i hope this helps you keep the comments updated and i will be glad to continue assisting you..

If you're getting vertical lines it sounds like a hardware issue. Get a flashlight and look inside the slot for bent pins.

Options for Adding Serial Ports
The serial port is prevalent on PC's as well as scores of industrial, scientific and consumer devices, making it a convenient starting point for communications. Since RS-232 itself is only suited to short connections (50 ft. max.) many applications require that it be adapted to fit requirements. RS-422, typically used for extending RS-232 communications, provides full duplex communications between two devices. It can also provide one way communications from one master to several slaves. RS-485 communications standard allows cable lengths up to 4000 feet. It also provides very high noise immunity. Multidrop connections up to 32 different nodes can be made over a single twisted pair cable along with a signal ground connection.
This article summarizes the choices a system designer has when adding a serial (RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485) communications device. There are many different ways to add additional serial ports to your Desktop PC, Palm, or Laptop PC. USB, PCMCIA, PCI and ISA are some of the methods that will be discussed.
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) provides a high data rate and Hot Swap connection for PCs, providing an easy connection to a wide variety of multimedia and network USB devices. Generally considered to be for home or office use, USB is finding its way into Industrial applications.
PCMCIA Serial Ports are yet another way to add serial ports to a PC that has PCMCIA Slots available. Most Laptops today offer only one (if any at all) DB9 type serial ports. A PCMCIA Serial Card is a good way to add a serial port (or ports) to any laptop that is low on available serial ports (RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485).
PCI Cards are becoming more popular as a way to add serial ports to desktop PC's. PCI type slots are becoming the "norm" in standard PC's today, and PCI Serial Cards are an excellent way to add serial ports. The standard Desktop PC may only come with one serial port standard (if any serial ports at all). PCI Serial Cards use Software Drivers to address the ports to the PC.
ISA Cards are yet another way to add serial ports to the older desktop PC's. ISA type slots are becoming scarce in standard PC's today, but are still an excellent way to add serial ports. The ISA Cards are typically addressed using dip switches and shunts or jumpers to set IRQ's for each port. No Software Drivers are required with ISA style serial cards.
Palm OS PDA's may be connected to RS-422 or RS-485 data circuits using Palm adapters. These adapters offer total portability for collecting data and field service chores. The Palm device and the adapter will usually slip into a shirt pocket. Some models use the PDA's connecting cable, some include a cable and some are cradles that allow the PDA to nest in place and connect directly to the Palm base socket. PalmTerm Freeware allows you to transmit and receive data from the Palm serial port.

How can I get the card reader to recognize sdhc cards

It's not your card reader, the SDHC mini firmware is dead that's why your reader cannot detect it. Warranty, return it to SanDisk for a new one. Every hardware you plug or attach to a PC or Laptop has what is called a firmware, a mini program that communicates with your PC and Laptop that's how they syst

Hp pavilion dv7-4165dx black screen

A blacked-out screen doesn't necessarily indicate a broken monitor.
If the computer has run out of charge or is in hibernation or sleep mode,

if the screen is too dark, or if the display cable has come disconnected from the motherboard, the screen may appear black or fail to turn on.

To fix a blacked-out laptop screen, troubleshoot the screen settings, check the LCD connector and see if the computer is awake and receiving power.

Touch the touchpad or move the external mouse to see if the computer is asleep or hibernating. If the computer fails to respond, press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Press the power button if the screen remains black.

Confirm that the power indicator light, found at the front of the computer or above the keyboard, is glowing solid green or blue.

Confirm that the power adapter is plugged into the computer and into a wall outlet. Confirm that battery indicator light is glowing solid green or blue.

Hold down the "Fn" key. Press the up-arrow to see if the screen brightness increases.
Some computers also use the "F6" or "F7" keys to increase screen brightness.

Hold down the power button for 10 seconds to turn off the laptop.
Remove the AC adapter from the computer, close the screen, and then turn the PC over.

Slide the battery latch to eject the battery. Pull the battery out of its compartment.

Turn the computer back over, open the lid, and insert the edge of a flathead screwdriver or other flat, solid object beneath the bezel above the keyboard.

Wedge the edge of the keyboard bezel off of the top cover.
Work your way along the edge of the keyboard bezel to loosen it.
Pull the bezel off the laptop.

Trace the cable coming from the laptop screen to the connector found beneath the bezel. Reconnect the display cable to the motherboard if the cable has come loose from the connector.

Line up the tabs on the bezel with the slots along the top of the keyboard. Insert the right edge of the bezel into the gap above the keyboard, and then push the bezel back in place.

Turn the computer back on. If the laptop screen is still blacked out, connect an external monitor to the video port on the side of the PC to confirm that the video card isn't defective.

If the external monitor works, the LCD screen could be broken.

If the monitor doesn't work, the motherboard or video card might need to be replaced.

Hope this helps

Hi,
What you can do is remove the memory card from the slot, anyways you will be having two memory banks replace it other one. If you are using 2 memory cards remove both and interchange it. But before that clean both the card and the bank if any dust inside.

Gateway computer and ether net card will not plug in

There have been several varients of buss slots over the years from Vesa to ISA8bit ISA16bit EISA 32bit and PCI32 and PCI64 and more recently the PCIE and PCIE16 bus slots.
at a guess I would say that the card yrom your old gateway is a VESA or ISA16 card and the newer gateway is a PCI
the way to Identify an ISA card is to look at the edge connector that plugs into the motherboard, the ISA 8bit will have 31 sections to it the 16bit varient than has an aditional 18 connects on a sepparate section. this connection is much lager than the PCI bus slot even though PCI has over 50 connectors. VESA cards are lager again and have 3 sections to their edge connectors - the boards are not interchangeable.

Fan and power light work but no monitor.

Check your RaM card reseat or clean it with soft eraser only its edge connector both side. If this unit is a laptop then disconnect first the battery and disconnect any other power source to it, before you do cleaning or reseating of the card. This is a memory fault if not try to install spare good RAM.

No wireless connection

What do you mean by other identical computers have the same location?
Each wireless card has a unique MAC address so they should not interfere with each other. Are the laptops all communicating with the same wireless router or different routers?
If the laptops are communicating with different routers and there is interference between then you should change your wireless router to work on a different channel to the other routers.

Go to www.support.dell.com and select "I'm looking for drivers and downloads". If you don't have the proper version of Adobe you will be prompted to install it. Once installed return to "drivers and downloads" and enter the "service tag",(serial number) of the 820 laptop. Dell keeps a listing of drivers for every customer's computer they sell.

Upgrading Memory on Packard Bell MIT GHA20

If you look along the top edge of the escape/function/del keys, there are several small plastic tabs that hold the keypad in place. Use a very small flat head screwdriver to push these back from one corner across to the other, gently lifting the keypad as you go. When you press back the last tab, the keypad should just pop out but take care as it's connected by a cable at the bottom edge of the keys. The RAM slots are located under a thin metal cover under the keypad. You'll need a very small philips head screwdriver to undo this. After installing RAM, replace the metal cover then pop the keypad back in, bottom edge first and just press down the top edge and the plastic tabs should snap back into place. Hope this helps!
