everything warns NOT to install the card before the software. The software loaded fine, but when i insert the aircard, i get the message "GC83 is not communicating. please reinsert the card"

When i do that, the screen goes to all vertical lines and the computer locks up. i'm far from getting online. the card won't even talk to the software.

it's and acer 5100 running vista

The owners manual has nothing under troubleshooting remotely like this message. tried the drivers already. same message.

  • motiveflow Jun 13, 2008

there's no physical damage to the slot.

i tried updating the drivers for the slot and there was no change.

i don't have any other way to test the aircard.

i will have to assume that it is defective.

Cause you can update the expansion slots drivers. but i would also if you can test this card on another machine or a friends laptop to ensure its not defective.. but if the card works properly then upgrade the drivers of everything, i.e. expansion slot, processor, firmware for the aircard, and the wireless manager. cause what i can tell after talking to tech support for sony erickson. they said it sounds as if the expansion slot is not working or the card is defective. i hope this helps you keep the comments updated and i will be glad to continue assisting you..

If you're getting vertical lines it sounds like a hardware issue. Get a flashlight and look inside the slot for bent pins.

My laptop will not start it says to reseat the memory, how do I do this please, thank you

Hello,

Turn off your laptop.

Flip it over.

The memory is usually behind the smallest cover. The other covers are for the hard drive or drives.

Open the cover for the memory cards. If you open the wrong cover close it and try another.

The memory cards are small printed circuit boards about 2 1/2 to 3 inches long and about 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches wide.

The cards are in sockets and they 'clip' in. To remove a card look at both sides of the card. There will be a place on each side to push on the clip with a finger. Push on both of these spots gently at the same time. If you do this correctly the memory card will pop out of the socket allowing you to remove it. Remove the card and if there is more than one remove the others also.

Once you have the cards out I recommend cleaning their contacts if possible. (This is optional.) Use a clean pencil eraser and rub it gently along the contacts (they are gold plated) to remove dirt and oxidation.

To reseat the memory place the edge of the memory card in to the slot laptop it came out of. The cards will only go in one way. There is a notch on the edge that must line up with the socket.

Once the edge is in the socket gently push the card down in to the metal clip. It should click in to place. Make certain that the card has gone in straight and not crooked . Also look at the edge of the card. The gold contacts along the edge should be 'seated' and line up evenly in the socket.

Install all the memory back in to the laptop.

Replace the memory cover.

Flip the laptop over and restart it.

Hope that helps.

Error Message: 104-Unsupported wireless network device detected. System Halted. Remove device and restart.

Hi,

I think you can try this steps and hope it will help you.
Try to reseat the Wireless Card in your machine.

You will need the following tools to complete the removal and replacement procedures:
-Magnetic screwdriver
-Phillips P0 screwdriver
-5.0-mm socket for system board screwlocks
-Flat-bladed screwdriver
-Tool kit-includes

Turn the machine upsidedown

Remove the battery.

Wireless Card Removal

1. Loosen the PM2.0×5.0 screw 1 that secures the Mini PCI
compartment cover to the computer.
2. Lift the rear edge of the Mini PCI compartment cover 2, and
then swing it forward.
3. Remove the Mini PCI compartment cover.

4. Disconnect the wireless antenna cables 1 from the Mini PCI
communications card.
5. Spread the two retaining tabs 2 that secure the Mini PCI
communications card to the communications compartment
socket. (The board rises up).
6. Remove the wireless communications card 3 by pulling the
board away from the socket at a 45-degree angle.

**Reverse the above procedure to install a Mini PCI
communications card.

If happens that it does not work, I think you can just reinstall OS just to make sure if its Hardware or Software problem.

Thank you for choosing FixYa.

Connection problem

The phone working when the PC doesn't...

Not a good explanation for that...
Check the path between the main system
and your modem to see if you have a motor (refrig), or
fluorescent light... or even an old style (CRT) monitor/TV
can NOISE up a radio signal really well...
(to get past any wires that may be in a wall)

Rotate or raise the modem's physical location...

But for the phone working I would suggest getting into the
WAP and turning up the radio strength...

How far away from your modem is your system placed...??

((or consider a good WAP "extender" (like Netgear))).

Sony ericsson gc83 to unlock

Cingular usually has a standard pin# of 0000. If this does n't work contact cingular they might not be compatible with each other. I have been a cingular customer for over 10 years, and have found majority of what they have works within there own equipment. trying to use the pc card with t-mobile, although it is a great Idea, and makes sense, I believe it is a compatability issue. makes some calls, and if you dont get the answer you like from cingular, call and talk to tech support from both sides t-mobile, and cingular.
