Take the top cover off the tw. Unlock the whole tw from the bottom case. Slide the tw forward and lift up and set on the rear side. On the bottom front of the unit, there is a bunch of leaf springs that push on the keys to keep them up. One of the leaf springs are gonna be off. Simply pull the leaf spring up and onto the key that does not have one on.

This will fix your problem

There is no way to deactivate the correction key. there must be another problem like no correction tape or simply not lifting the tape

First this is old school after hitting the correction you must press the letter you are trying to correct. if you knew this and the correction tape is properly installed and lifts up you may have old supplies, If you want to talk yuo can call me.

I have a couple of IBM Selectric II Typewriters and over the last few months both just quit as if they are getting no power. One started working again but then quit again..any ideas on how to fix. Also had...

Most selectrics at this time are suffering from many gummy parts.
All of these problems are probably repairable with a good chemical cleaning and lube.

Ibm Selectric iii Correction button not working. Correction tape won't lift up. What part need to be replace to fix problem

Tou do know that tou have to repress to key you are trying to correct. If you know that then the mech. under the rt. dust cover is probably gummed up try some WD40 on it.

IBM Selectric II typewriter stuck in correcting position

If you know how to remove the right dust cover (black inside the T/W below the carrier) next to the R. side frame is the correction set up mech. spray some WD40 on the arms especially where they pivot, they should free up.

IBM Correcting Selectric II; correction ribbon frozen in front of typing ribbon.

Move the grey lever on the R. side of the carrier to the R. and remove correction tape, try the machine, if it seems to work OK install a new correction tape.

Changing typewriter ribbon in the IBM Selectric

You haven't told what model of Selectric. If it is a selectric II or III, there is an orange lever on the carrier that you must pull to one side. The correction tape has a silver lever next to the take-up spool that you must pull outward.

Correcting IBM Selectric II Typewritter correcton ribbon won't engage

Selectric I and II type elements are identical (88 char) where Selectric III uses a different element (96 char). The 88 character element will have white lettering and the 96 character element will have yellow. Directly underneath the lift-up tab to remove the element will be a 3-digit number. That's the last 3 digits of the element's part number, which will be preceeded by 1167 for 88 character, or 1352 or 96 character. For example, if you have a '052" stamped on the element, and it's an 88 character style, the P/N will be 1167052.

The correcting mechanism is an intricate additional function of the backspace function. To test it/adjust it/or repair it requires the machine be hand-cycled using a hand cycle wheel which is screwed into the right hand side operational shaft. It's unlikely that an un-trained party would be successful repairing this..
