KITCHEN AID MIXER BLOWS TRIP ON NO. 6 SPEED SETTING

your mixer has a specific wattage that it is rated for, If the mixer trips the breaker at your panel try using another outlet in your house to make sure that it is the mixer and not the outlet socket. Then you need to try your brushes depending on age and use of the mixer they may be exhausted and a higher wattage draw may be causing the breaker to trip, if the brushes have at least 3/8th inch of black carbon left on them then sadly it is the motor, you probably need a new armature or a new winding or both, which would be a complete motor at that point. If it is the motor parts then the repair will require a FULL tear down at which time you may as well clean it up completely and add new gear grease and a new motor gasket while you are at it. .

The resource center web site does not list machines of that vintage.
best bet is a motor rewind shop and shape larger brushes to fit.

Carbon brush stuck in kitchen aid mixer

What model number is your machine? Try turning it on it's side and shake a little, take a very small screwdriver and grind away to crack the brush and shake it out. Otherwise it is a full tear down to take the brush holder out. Hope this helps if not get back to us for help

My machine simply won't turn on .

Obtain a copy of the Repair Part List for your model from Kitchenaid.com.
Download a Copy of the Kitchenaid Service manual.

http://www.kitchenaidparts.be/centers/servicemanual/mixer.pdf
Remove both Brush Holder Caps (34), one on each side of the
Gearcase Motor Housing (1). The Carbon Brushes (29) are keyed
and designed to go into the Housing but only one way. Both must
make contact with the Motor Coils in order for the Motor to turn.
If they are improperly inserted or too worn out (replacement is
required) then your mixer will not run.

Won't turn on

Get a copy of the Repair Part List for your model at Kitchenaid.com
On each side of the Motor Housing(1) is the large black Brush Motor
Cap(23). Each Carbon Brush(19) is keyed (one corner is not square)
and is designed to go into the Motor Housing slot but only one way.
Each Carbon Brush must make contact with the Motor Coils. The
motor will not turn if one or both does not come in contact with the coils.
If the brushes are too worn out, of course they won't touch the coils
neither and your motor will not run. You can purchased new brushes
on Ebay if they need to be replaced.

What are black screws on the side of the mixer

Those are the two Motor carbon Brushes. Without them, the motor
would not run at all. Sooner or later, they will become so worn out
that the mixer will stop running. And when it does, don't be alarmed.
You simply purchase new ones for it. To see what they look like,
Go on Ebay & search for Kitchenaid Motor Brush*. They are keyed so
there is only one proper way to insert them into the motor housing.
If either or both brushes do not make contact with the motor coils,
the motor will not run.
