Question about Panasonic PT-51HX41 51" Rear Projection Television
I just received (free) a broken Panasonic 51" HD rear projection TV... it plugs in, powers on, and displays a picture. However, the blue bulb has been removed and I am told that the previous owner paid $50 for diagnosing the problem - the bulb allegedly needs to be replaced. However, I don't feel comfortable buying a new bulb and crossing my fingers that this is in fact the issue.
I've searched online and it seems that the common problem with these things is the "convergence" circuitry/chips needing to be repaired/replaced:
My question... what can I try (without bringing it into a shop) to further diagnose? Is this worth pursuing?
Have a PT-51HX42 and the color will not get right no matter what I do. I have no green or red and it looks terrible, especially in HD. I was told I need a new bulb. I tried adjusting convergence and that did'nt help. What do you suggest?

Trust ME when i say setting convergence after doing repair takes alot of time to do /you can damage set if you do not have service codes and values/ you also must have the hand unit that comes with set in order to even get into convergence circuit, call your repair shops ask if they have a good blue tube for set and how much would it cost to repair?ARE you sure blue tube has been removed from set.?
