Printer won`t print with black ink prints colourjust sends blank pages I changed the cartridge but no different

Hi Allan

BROTHER DCP-165C BLACK INK NOZZLE BLOCKAGE CLEANING

If your printer is under warranty then take it to a Brother Service Center for Print Head Maintenance.

If not and you are technically minded and/or adventurous, then you could try to clear the likely cause of this fault (potential blocked micro-nozzles on the print head) yourself.

Remove all the cartridges, wrap them in clingwrap/clingfilm and then place them (upside down) on an old newspaper to minimize accidental leakage > remove the print head (a small square, gold, patterned contact plate sitting at the back of the cartridge compartment) > immerse the print head in a solvent for 24 hours (sometimes longer). Below is a webpage showing you how to create, handle, store, use your own solvent recipe to and safely and responsibly dispose of used solvent:

http://www.ehow.com/how_6614390_homemade-solvent-clean-print-head.html

Remove and blow dry the print head until completely dry > reinstall print head > reinstall cartridges > repeat head cleaning and test print procedures again.

For the future, either with this or any other printer, please remember these tiny micro-nozzles can very easily become blocked with dried ink. You can protect against this by always using good quality ink, printing regularly to keep ink flowing through the system (including the odd unnecessary test print, if necessary), replacing empty cartridges without delay, not allowing drying air to dry ink residue in the micro-nozzles by never leaving a cartridge space empty for more than the few seconds it takes to change a cartridge, always fully prepare, unpack, unclip and unpeel the new cartridge before removing the empty one, try to avoid being distracted while changing cartridges (so easy to forget and leave a cartridge space empty and the cartridge bay open).

Please don't hesitate to ask for more help if you need it.

I hope this helps.

My brother DCP 165c printer does not print black ink, colored are okey. nothing is seen in LCD about this error

If you do not get an error in the LCD screen, it usually means that your Print head is clogged: try running a couple cleaning cycles using your printer inbuilt utility to try to 'clean' the Print head.
If this does not clear the clog head, try using a new original Brother black cartridge (which contains special solvent to prevent clogging) and repeat the cleaning cycles a couple times again.
If the problem persist, you could try buying a print head cleaning cartridge to 'dissolve the dried up ink' as Brother inkjet inbuilt print head are very difficult to access and clean!
Hope it helps & good luck!

My brother DCP-165C has full ink which shows in the status monitor. in the test print only the colored ones in visible in the paper. but in the normal setting when i print nothing is there in the paper. ...

In most cases the printer driver software can have errors while being in use or is shut down. So to reset remove your printer from the PC and uninstall the printer software. Now reinstall the printer software and then connect the Printer to be detected as a new hardware as it will be installed. Now check the printer properties to see the ink levels.
Activate head cleaning before a test is taken . Sometimes it is possible that the head is not reacting to the need of the PC command or can be an issue with ink drying or
poor ink cartridge contacts.

Brother DCP-165C gives error print unable 46

The error message "Print Unable 46" is an indication that the machines ink absorbers are almost full. The ink absorbers hold liquid and dried ink after it has been purged from the print head. These absorbers can control enough ink for the expected life of the machine.

There is a possibility that this message may have occurred in error. Upgrading the firmware of the Brother machine may resolve the issue. Follow the procedure below to determine if a firmware update is required:
-if the display screen is displaying an error message, press the STOP/EXIT key to change the LCD to the main screen.
-press the # and * key at the same time. The first 2 characters on the top row will determine the ROM version.

If the ROM version is OE or greater (example: OF, OG, OH, etc), the firmware does NOT need to be upgraded. If the ROM version is OA, OB, OC or OD, follow the procedure on this link to upgrade the firmware.

If the message "Print Unable 46" continues to appear on the display the Brother machine after completing the firmware upgrade and your machine is within warranty (even if it's not under warranty you have to do the same thing), you have to take it to a Brother Authorized Service Center. http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/BSC/public/us/us/en/faq/faq/000000/002600/000059/faq002659_000.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc290c_all&Cat=11

Black ink not printing,

Either the cartridge is empty or its not being detected by the sensor. Even the print head may be blocked. Did you kept printer for some time w/o black ink cartridge? In such cases the ink gets dried up in the head.
You got to take professional help in opening the top & removing the scanner and then cleaning the sensors. Even Print head may require 'steam' cleaning.

Brother DPC-165C has 'Init Unable AF' error

Yup. I suspect the head has been removed from the unit. There are adjustments on some printers. It was assembled wrong. The grating noise is likely the auto cleaner. If it cannot go 'home' the unit will not initialize. Possibly the head detect sensor is broken or covered. If the head will not home (moves out and back more than once or slams home hard), 'Init Unable AF'. You may be able to order a service manual from Brother for this. A repair shop can order the manual as well. (I suspect you need a new print head as well. You might want to replace the printer) see tips on bubblejet printers.

My printer Brother DCP 165C cannot print in black ink.

Your black printhead is blocked.
The printhead is deep inside the printer and has to be taken out by the expert and cleaned with the help of 'steam' and hot water. This is because not using the printer for a long time. or using low grade refill inks.
Please select new cartridge only if you are inserting a new cartridge or fully refilled cartridge. Otherwise use old cartridge option. Brother printer has a mechanical sensor and not the electronic chip in the ink cartridges.
After inserting the old used cartridge if you choose 'new cart' option it will show the "Full" ink. You can still print from the exhausted ink cart after covering the sensor in the middle by a piece of paper in emergency.

Printer wont print black.already replaced with new ink but still wont print black

did you take the tape off the new cartridge and is the print head burned out for the black? if you installed the diagnostic's on it then run it and see what it says, otherwise expect the print head to be cooked, however it is possible to get a bad ink cartridge try tapping it on your finger and see if ink comes out if it does not then the ink cartridge is dried out or no good, about %15 of print cartridges are bad on just about any brand printer some more than others.

Red ink not printing!!!

To clean a print cartridge you should a glaas of water and 15-25 ml of alcohol and mix it in a small wide pan. Dip the head (usually head is mounted to the cartridge itself) in the solution and move horizontally (while the head portion only submerged) keep it there for 5-10 minutes. This should clean your print head. After the head is dry you can mout it to the printer and print. Caution: Do not touch the electronic contacts on spilt water or alcohol in it. This will damage the printer.
