SOURCE: DVD Player Hack code
Hello, I realize this is a bit late to get back to you on your request for help.
You may be way past the need for this. But, changing the region you live in on a DVD Player so you can play new DVDs or view a friends DVD is not a hack. The international copyright laws recognize you or your friend have already paid for the right to view these anytime, anywhere you want to do so.
The problem with a Sony DVD player in the modern era is that they will not play PAL encoded DVDs. PAL is an encoding spec. used in the EU and mostly anywhere outside the US.
You could take your DVD player to an authorized service center in the EU and tell them you want your PAL decoder enabled and Sony has to grant you this right. Its actually addressed as "Unlocking the Region Code." Sony has told all authorized repair center to comply with this request.
What it breaks down to is this in the law, International and US: When you purchase a Movie DVD yoiu have purchased the right to view the disc for as long as you want to until the DVD is no longer playable and even then you could get a replacement. No outside agency, Sony in this case, has the right to inhibit your rights.
Hope this helps empower your understanding of copyright laws.

1) Turn your DVD off. 2) Use the remote control and press:
- Top Menu
This should power the device into Service Mode.
3) Choose option 2 and then choose option 4.
4) There should be two fields: Input Code and Current Code, each one with 5 chars long.
Then push zero on all the 5 places of the first and the second field.
5) There should be a zero on the device display, meaning that all regions are free.
6) Press POWER to turn it off and you're done.
Let me know if it works!

SOURCE: I need a multiregion hack
Yep it can be done but not using the players orignal handset and it is tricky . I did my friends player last night . See this thread for tips as you will need something that can be programmed with the correct hex codes to simulate the sony service remote http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks/sony-dvp-ns718h/10137
. This will work on your player to although it is a thread about the 718 model. I used my PSP to do it on both.
