Just a thought but try making the presser foot not push to tight on the material. most unit's have some sort of a knob to change this.
I HOPE THIS IS HELPFULL :)

Deep breath. Ohmmmmm.... ok now.

Few things you need to know.

1. Try to remember TTN when you run into problems like this it stands for Thread, Tension, Needle. Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as universal thread and needles. You'll need to determine what kind of thread and needle is best for your application.

2. When things gets bunched up under the fabric it Usually means that the tension for the top thread is too loose. However, a bad, bend or just plain wrong needle will cause these problems too.

3. Always grasp the threads (both top and bottom) and pull gently backwards when starting a seam. Some old school seamstresses and seamsters say to make sure your needle is at its upper most position (just before it starts to move down) before you begin sewing.

4. since you've had a couple instances with this issue... you might have to clean the bobbin race area. I'm a bit reluctant to tell you about this but remove the bobbin and look carefully for other stray threads, dust bunny's etc.

I hope this helps some. ;o)

Hi! I have a singer simple 3116 sewing machine

It is the top threading that is giving you the problem not the bobbin thread. Try this, totally rethread, the machine. A new needle will not hurt either. Now with the presser foot up, pull on the top thread, it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, pull the thread again, it should barely move. This usually will seat the thread in the tension discs.
Good luck and Merry Christmas

Just bought the machine like two hours ago, as I sew, there is too much loose thread on the bottom. Not sewing corectly.

Your problem is in your threading, not the bobbin. Watch your dvd that came with your machine. If, there wasn't one, call Singer at 1-800-4singer and ask for one. Also, do not use cheap thread, there is too much lint. You can also try this test, to make sure that you are threaded right, with presser foot up, pull on your top thread, it should move smoothly, now lower the presser foot, it should barely move. You can download a manual at www.singerco.com , under the customer support tab and enlarge the diagrams for threading . While you are there, save a copy on your computer, that way you will always have your manual handy. I have this same machine and I use metal bobbins SA156 and it seems to sew smoother. (They can be bought on ebay for $8.99 for 20 of them with free shipping. Good luck.

My wife is frustrated with her sewing machine and just threw the material down in disgust...there seems to be a problem with the tension or something like that. She cant get a simple stitch without the...

I have a simple and I have better luck when I use a SA156 metal bobbin. Another thing, has she watched the cd that came with the machine? This machine is a little touchy as far as threading goes, I have been sewing 50+ years. Usually, it is in the top threading that causes the problem. If, she has a question, she should call Singer at 1-800-4singer and they will walk her through all of the threading and other troubleshooting strategies. Good luck. Hope this helps you.

Check with sewusa for a threading guide and manual.

Look inside the font door of the machine to see if there is a threading guide.

Thread tension for regular seam sewing

oil the shaft for the presser bar and keep moving it up and down(it may take a while) until it moves freely. Always use Sewing machine oil Not 3N1 oil.
Tension:
If the thread is loose on the bottom of the fabric, it's actually the top thread is too loose. Think of 2 little elves playing tug of war in your machine, one on top and one underneath. If you have loops on bottom, the top needs to pull harder (tighten top tension). If you have loose thread on top your top tension is probably too tight and your bobbin thread too loose
