I'm assuming that you're hitting the buttons on the GFI outlet. The test will test the grounding of the outlet. The reset fixes it. These have nothing to do with the A/C. Hit reset and leave it alone.

There is a control panel with fan and temperature switches in the a/c unit somewhere. Turn on the fan/ a/c switch and set the fan on high. Move the temperature switch to mid-range. The noise on the unit should be a bit louder as the compressor kicks in to do the cooling.

Stephannie...first, make sure that you've reset the outlet. Plug a lamp or something into it and be sure it works. I am guessing that the outlet is not providing power. Also, on some units, the buttons need to be pushed with some amount of determination or they don't make good contact. Remember that the function switch ... the one that says off/fan/ac must be in a/c in order for anything to happen.

If you've still got no function, you will need local assistance.

Why does the unit beep when I plug it in.

Good Morning Tina,

I understand that your Frigidaire air conditioner, model# FAM187S2A, beeps and flashes lights when you first plug it in. First, test the power supply cord by doing the following:

1. Plug in your air conditioner.
2. The power supply cord will have TWO buttons on the plug head. Press the TEST button. You will notice a click as the RESET button pops out.
3. Press the RESET button. Again you will notice a click as the button engages.
4. The power supply cord is now supplying electricity to the unit. (On some products this is also indicated by a light on the plug head)

NOTE:
• Do not use this device to turn the unit on or off.
• Always make sure the RESET button is pushed in for correct operation.
• The power supply cord must be replaced if it fails to reset when either the TEST button is pushed, or it cannot be reset. A new one can be obtained from the product manufacturer.
• If power supply cord is damaged, it CANNOT be repaired. It MUST be replaced by one obtained from the product manufacturer.

NOTE: Some plugs have buttons on the top.

I ask that you please follow up with a comment on the post, at your convenience, to advise if further troubleshooting is needed or if your air conditioner status has changed successfully. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-
WP

Accidently unplugged unit without turning power off. when plugged back in power will not come on. i reset the plug and got the green light and when hit test it popped as per the instrunctions on the cord.

Because you used a common plug that already has 5 or more amps of current on it it would be bound to trip easily. Many modern homes that are put together fast have the wires pushed in the back of them and hence can't take a huge load like that. One of the plugs in the system likely failed to pass the power to the next one in the chain. That is why an informed consumer calls an electrician when they get a new appliance like an air conditioner and have a designated plug installed with a wire size and a breaker that can handle it. Sometimes they put in a high quality commercial plug.

Plug a light into the outlet used for the A/C, if the light does not come on when reset then the circuit breaker that provided the power to the outlet need to be reset or replaced.

I woke up today and my air conditioner wasn't working! I tried unplugging it and hitting the reset button and nothing works. The power light on the plug still lights up green whenever it's plugged in, but...

There MIGHT be a small fuse in the control. You would be fortunate if that was the case. Most of these controls just die. If you don't feel like putting a lot of money into fixing the machine I wrote a short article on bypassing that control.

My window unit will not come on. I have pushed the reset button and nothing happens. The power is on because the green light on the plug in on.

From the diagram everything is operated by the control board, unless it has a fuse on it you can replace looks like you gonna need one.
