This generally means that there is something in the way of the gears in the lens or they are just stuck. Simply pick up the camera like you are going to take a picture, hold onto it with only your right hand and then smack the bottom of the camera on the palm of your other hand. This should free up the lens and get rid of the error. Let me know how it works out and if you need anything else.

When i turn on my camera the lens close and on the screen it says "lens error!" and goes black.

Hello Lash,

The lens error in many cameras are caused due to sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Sand, gunk, case fibers, etc... accumulate at the bottom of the case. These materials stick to the camera by electrostatic build-up from the camera rubbing against the side of the carrying case. To resolve the lens error remove the battery for some time. Then insert the battery again and charge the battery completely. Then try pressing and holding the Menu, Function, Function Set, or OK button while turning the camera on. Also try the factory reset option. Also try the on/off button many times after battery full charge.

Lens is stuck (halfway out) and screen shows "lens error" and won't do anything

Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

I turn my dmc-fh27 camera and the lens won't come out. it is trying to move but it will not budge and the screen says "System Error (Zoom)".

Warning: This is only a last resort if you no longer have a warranty.

I used a variety of different methods, but here's what worked for my camera. Apparently the lens was just off the track.

1. Turn on the camera, and smack the back against the palm of your hand to get the lens to come out.
2.Hold the lens out until the "error screen" comes up.
3. Take the camera with the lens facing towards you, and use your thumbs to push on the lens.
4. Push firmly until the lens "clicks".
5. Turn off camera, then on again.
6. Hopefully cry tears of joy that you fixed it.

IT FAIL AND IT IS MAKING CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURN IT ON. IT GIVES ME A MESSAGE "LENS ERROR "

Usually that means that you have a bit of grit in the lens mechanism and the camera recognizes that it is taking too much force to open or close. The clicking noise is the camera trying to extend the lens for use. If repeatedly switching the camera on and off fails, you are at a crossroads. You can send it to a repair facility to have the grit removed (assuming the unit hasn't be come damaged in the process). Or, you can take a substantial risk and try to "help" the lens open or close by wiggling or pushing lightly on the lens mechanism to try to loosen the grit. The risk is that you'll break the mechanism for good. I have taken this risk and won, but it's a chance you'll have to decide to take on your own!

Lens Error

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

My Nikon Coolpix S5 has a broken lens; it son't fully close/ open. The message displayed on the screen says "Lens cover error". Is it something that can be repaired? How much would it cost to fix...

Hi , The lens cover error is because the stepper motor in the camera is unable to open the lens cover. I have a solution posted in doc "nikon s5 s6 lens cover error repair.doc"  uploaded on site http://www.esnips.com/web/papputatiyasStuff    It will be helpfull for you. You have written that your lense is broken. In that case you can follow the procedure given in my doc to open the camera. You can replace the camera lens if broken.
Happy debugging Mukesh
