Freezer and fridge at 7 setting. can't change to lower setting. What is wrong?

If it is the same temperature as verified with a thermometer, first thing in the morning, at settings 1, 5, and 7, then the thermostat or the thermistor (temperature sensor) has failed. The ideal temperature for a home fridge is 4'C.

There are puzzles though, is 7 the coldest, or is 7 the warmest. Are you increasing the cold, or reducing the cold by setting it at 7? The manual is the only sure-fire way to tell, or sometimes they pot 'Coldest' on the dial. Google is your friend in such cases;

Freezer is fine but the lower compartment is just cool not cold temp setting is turned to coldest

Firstly turn you temperature setting to the MIDDLE in between cold and coldest. This will allow cold air coming from your freezer to go into your fridge. if this does not seem to change your problem, check to see if the air vent at the back, top of the fridge is allowing air to flow from the freezer to the fridge. if there is no air flowing there may be a clogged ice drain or pan. usually if this is clogged you can unplug your fridge for 24 hours with the doors open. and it will manually melt the ice buid up.hope this helps

Thanks

Hi, We have a whirlpool eb22dkxfw01 bottom-freezer refrigerator. The freezer part is working OK, compressor is running, but the refrigerator part is getting rather close to room temperature, and...

need to check for ice build up in air vent. if not make sure you hear your evap fan blowing in the freezer section. this blows your cold air into the fresh food side. do you have ice build up on rear wall of freezer section?

GE TFX26KRDA WW 2001 side by side refrig/freezer w warm fridge

Cleaned the condenser coils which were dusty but not severely so. Checked the evaporator coils which were NOT iced. Reset the fridge to coldest setting and freezer to #5 (mid range of temperature) and waited a full 36 hours. Fridge temp is 40 F and freezer is about 0F. Not sure what is different except coldest setting on fridge. Warm weather is here but not warm enough to require AC. Temps in late afternoon in house about 77-80F. Any thoughts are appreciated because I suspect this problem is not completely resolved.

Freezer wrk OK but temperature in the bottom fridge not cold

If you have a frost build up on the interior back wall of the freezer, you have a defrost issue. This would include a bad defrost control, bad heater or terminator.
If there is not a frost build up then you may have a bad evaporator fan motor.

Freezer -5 Fridge 50

You have a defrost problem. Refrigerator gets cold via freezer. If blocked with frost, will restrict cold air into refrigerator.

Freezer works great, as it should, but fridge is only keeping items room temp. I have the setting at the coldest setting: #7. What is wrong?

Here's what I did, I defrosted! I found out that the fridge temp is monitored and maintained by the freezer. Because we had a power outage one night, my freezer thawed while we all slept and then when power came back on, freezer re-froze but this cause an ice build up on the vent on the back wall of the freezer. Well, ice must have been in one (or more) vents, causing blocked air flow in my top half of the refrigerator. I turned the dial in the freezer to "off" which also shuts down power to the fridge half. I then unplugged the refrigerator, hauled all my food items into coolers, opened the freezer door and refrigerator doors and left them open for a little over six hours. I took advantage of this empty fridge and freezer and wiped everything down. After this time frame passed, I plugged the fridge back in, turned the freezer dial to my preferred freezer temp, and wah-lah! Within two hours I had a cold fridge and solid ice cubes in the freezer. I then put all my food items back into their appropriate compartments, and went to work. Bear in mind, a total 24-hour period is needed for the fridge to re-set itself, but still, after two hours the fridge was noticeably cold. Who knew, besides our parents' generation: DEFROST!

Freezer cold, refrigerator not...

What make and model is your unit?

You may have a problem with the unit going into defrost, could be a defrost timer or a thermal fuse. Try defrosting your fridge for now but you may need a service call.
Look in you freezer for a manual control also, it will allow more air flow to the fridge section.
