Lol I guess that seems confusing. The tv does not power on but does have juice flowing through to everything.

  • gerruti Jun 13, 2008

Nothing will turn on tv, dvd, vcr. I have a tester that I ran through the board and it seems to be getting juice everywhere.

  • gerruti Jun 13, 2008

Ok I have looked at everything and cannot find any noticeable damage to any of the components. Now your saying that I can find where the power button is and just touch my voltmeter to the board and turn it on? I haven't done that yet but I think the power IS stopping before it hits the power switch. I got this from my friends grandparents and they were told it would be cheaper to buy a new tv. It is only 2 1/2 years old so I figured I could fix it. How would I find exactly what capacitor or diode is bad, or could it be something else. I was in computer engineering in college so I have some basic knowledge of these things.

  • gerruti Jun 13, 2008

How do you find the parts exactly. Like if the power ic is bad and I want to get a new one. What do I type into google. Also my voltmeter isn't digital, what one would you recommend? Preferably one from radioshack.

  • gerruti Jun 13, 2008

Ok great. Now those look like they have more settings than my tester. What would I put the settings on when testing?

  • gerruti Jun 13, 2008

Lol its ok I knew what you meant.

*note it is never safe to open a tv to self service when it is plugged in. it can cause serious bodily harm, injury or death. and is best to leave to proffesionals.

do you see any blown capacitors on the pcb boards. that are puffy or bulged on the top? any fried black singes on the bottom? i assume your tester is a voltometer? if so then you can try to bypass the power button by jumping it from 2 connectors on the board with your voltometer and it should boot up or at least make a noise. if nothing happens then the power is stopping before it even hits the power switch. inwhich case the tv needs the pcb board replaced but it will probably be cheaper and easier to replace the unit as a whole.

unless of course you feel you have the time to find the exact surface diode or capacitor that is blow get its rating and replace it which you can do if youd like. and solder it in

you test em all with your voltometer till one doesnt get the proper signal. to learn that you need to google how to test capacitors and diodes still mounted on pcb boards. if you want to fix it call toshiba and give the the model number and the pcb board sid# and see if you can buy it for 60 bucks. which will probably be the cost. if your lucky but usually you only have 6months- 1 year after it was made to get the components. not like it was in the trinitron era. now tvs are basically throw aways. and after the warranty period for that model they usually dont keep the pcb boards to sell.

if its not working and you say the board gets power. then the main pcb is blown. and thats all there is that can be broke. to start finding what capacitor or surface diode is bad start at the number 01 on the board and work till you reach the end. usually a board starts at the power source and continues through out. so start at the power to the board and keep testing everything till you get a double beep outta your voltometer. if you have a nice digital one that is.

i wish i could tell you what one is exactly blown but there is no way to know. ive read through business tech reports of the power ic being blown check that and see and that could be your problem which google shows me there 37.98 to buy.

as far as identifying pcb and ic boards there always stamped with a identification number. that is what you would google.

TV has no power

Someone would have to check for short starting in Horizontal output circuit at the output transistor--voltage checks will also narrow down where likely problem is at.

If power light does not come on usually trouble is at fuse or very near it.

Apex TV/DVD Combo Internal Speakers

This is going to be a tough one.  Odds of finding replacements that will exactly into this chassis, and somehow be screwed down securely will be difficult. Here's a thought.
I tried to look up the owners manual with no success. If the set has a audio output, most likely a left and right out on the back on phono connectors, you can head over the  local Best Buy and snag a couple of powered speakers to fit the bill. I've seen them as small as your fist, and usually one has the amplifier built into it with the second being the satellite. Get the cable with dual phonos at one end and the correct connector at the powered speaker end (most likely a 3.5mm TRS like you use on a Ipod) and you're good to go. Figure to spend about $30 total. Good luck.

Problems with the tv coming on

It seems like there's a problem with a component on the Power Supply of your TV or there's a problem with your Picture Tube. I don't recommend you working on TV's unless you know what you're doing since you can get badly shocked if you don't discharge the Ulter Cap on the Picture Tube. If you don't know what you're doing then I suggest you get it repaired by someone who knows what they're doing.
