So my problem is simular, My computer reads that my cord is plugged in and all that, I unplugged my battery and the cord kept the computer on, but while the bettery is in it says plugged in but not charging. When I unplug my cord and replug it in it says "The AC adaptor cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 90W AC adaptor or higher for best system operation" but its the same cord that came with the computer!!!!!!!!!! What should I do?

Unplug the computer and take out the battery.
Hold the power button for ten seconds.
Leave the battery out and plug in the power cord.
Press the power button.
If the computer turns on, put the battery and everything should now work.

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a 'power reset' of the notebook.

  1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.
  2. Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
  3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
  4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
  5. Normally power on the notebook.
  6. If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
  7. Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up.
If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.

I have a gateway laptop MC7801u laptop and the battery only works when it is plugged in. it will not hold a charge, and the battery meter reads, "plugged in, not charging." what can i do to fix this?

your battery has just gone to junk, you will just have to use your power cable, until you are able to buy a new battery. Your lucky though my battery kept crashing my laptop. I just had to remove the battery completely and keep use the power cable to get it to work.

you can order battery from gateway, or go to newegg.com or ebay.com or any other place you want to.

Not turning on

My unit was totally dead. I just kept it plugged into my computer for about 12 hours. I downloaded the newest software from Garmin. When I unplugged it from my computer, the battery seemed to drain quick, but once I plugged it into the card adapter in the car... everything seems to be running great now.

My toshiba laptop won't turn on!

Place the battery back in and the power cord. Follow the power cord all the way to the plug and verify nothing was unplugged by accident. (the box on the plug sometimes disconnects without the user knowing it) This could have caused your lack of power. Hope this helps.

WD Notebook Hard disk power problem

The power cord connects to a little circuit board inside the case, and the hard drive itself connects to the board. I would think that if you damaged anything it would be the board but not the drive. You could try taking the drive out of the case and connecting it directly to your computer (or you could get a computer shop or computer geek friend to do it if you don't feel up to it). If the drive itself isn't damaged you will be able to read your data.
