When installing a program, you are normally prompted with a default installation directory, if you want to install to a different location, you normally just change the drive letter/folder listed on the default install path, then the program installs to that location. Be advised, even if you install a program to D:, several files will still be written to C drive (Driver and registry files)

When you start the install of a program, (for example: Microsoft Office) when you start the installtion, it will prompt you with an default install to path (C:\program files\microsoft office\office12 is the default path to Office for example)

When you get the path prompt, you can either change it in that window, or there will be a change button to let you change the install path.

If a program is already installed on the system, then normally you uninstall the application then reinstall it to the new location.

If you are wanting to move existing file folders to a different drive, you can do that by right clicking the start button then click EXPLORE to open windows explorer. From there you can locate the files or folders, right click them and click cut, then move to the new location and click paste.

You can do this with non-system and non application files like music, photos, and documents you write. You can't move programs this way because their file location is logged into the registry so the programs know where the program files are located.

Are you using the DIVX Codec for watching these downloaded movies? Go into the configuration of the decoder, find the 'deblocking' setting and change it to "none".

Acer Aspire M1610 Drive Problem

Hi Ginnegirl,

Have you tried inserting other disk in your computer? Try to assess if it's the disk that is not working properly. You may need to try a few CD (i.e. for audio, video, applications). If this does not work and granting that your Acer Aspire is new, it may be caused by a factory defect. The lens might not be working properly.

Install an IDE HDD in an acer aspire m1610

probably the hard disk is in generic mode you should format this according to the operating system you'll install, we have FAT32, NTFS etc.the other cause might be the jumper from hard disk might be incompatible meaning, if your hard disk is in cable select and your optical drive is in master this will conflict. check your setting
