Bottom oven element on Model MER5552BAW

The bottom element is not working. How do I tell if it is the control board or the element. I know about checking the element w/ a multimeter and looking for infinate resistance, but how do I know if it is the controller on the circuit board? The top element is working in the oven. The oven fails to heat up to the designated temperature. After 1.5 hour, the oven has only warmed up from 100 to 175, when the temp was set at 400.

Thanks in advance

all the electronic part works but the oven itself does not go beyond 120. the fan for the convection , the picture i mean, turns but the actual fan is silent. Nothing really happens except for a little warm on both ovens the top and bottom but on top everything seems to be responding. No temperature so what do we do or what can we do?

Magic, start with the basics first. See if you have the right power going to the oven. At the terminal block on the oven, where the cord attaches, you should have 120V from the center terminal to each end terminal. You should have 240V across the 2 end terminals. If you don't have this, there is your problem. If that's ok, check the voltage at the bake element terminals in back. Should be 240V when in bake. If that checks ok, then it would be the element itself. Check it, with power off and wires disconnected from the element it will ohm at approx. 20 to 22.6 ohms. If you don't have the power at the element then I would suspect the oven controller. The fact that it's heating to 170 degrees leads me to believe that you are missing a leg of power. Catriver.

Will just replacing the oven element fix my Kenmore model 911.955879range oven? It sparked, broke in two and a white flame continued going around the element, wouldn't stop I had to shut breaker off.

Hello Jennifer;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Good for you - turning off the breaker.

You have a older oven. Usually there is a spark or crack in the oven element. In your case the element was so embrittled it broke into 2 pieces.

Before you use the top range burners to be on the safe side you need to disconnect the oven element. You may have damaged the oven control board to where it is locked into power for the oven.

25713262-01ium3bsyoj5ql4fhv4kpwvp-4-0.jpg 1.) Remove the bottom drawer to reduce weight.
2.) Put a rug on the floor in front of the oven, so when you pull the oven out it does not scratch the floor.
3.) Pull the oven out so you can get behind it.
4.) Unplug the unit.
5.) Remove the back bottom cover.
6.) Disconnect the heating element and remove from oven.
7.) Rap the two loose element connections in the back with electrical tape.
8.) Follow the element loose connection to the control board at the top. Disconnect at the oven control board.
9.) Inspect the loose wiring from the control board to the heating element for burns or melting.
10.) Plug the oven back in and turn on the range burners.

The part number for the oven element is WB44T10014. Sears wants about $95.00 for this part. Search the internet for this part number and get it for about $28.00.

Your oven control board may have become damaged. Recently I replace one for a friend. Sears wanted $256.00. I got a remanufactured board over the internet for $30.00.

Get back to me and let me know what is going on.

I recently replaced a bottom baking element in my maytag oven. (Model #mer5552baw.) Now my oven will not preheat, but the stovetop still works. Does any one have any idea on what the problem might be???

Do you still have a display on the control if so good verifies 120 volts to control easiest way to test go to terminals on element with a meter you are looking for 240 volts at terminal when bake is turned on if no voltage either a broken wire or control board is not outputing on one of the heat relays

Element in oven sparked at corner and now will not heat

The heating element burned through -- it needs replacing. Turn off power to oven, remove two screws on heating element mount, pull heating element from wall of oven, remove two screws connecting electric leads to heating element. To install new element, reverse steps. Make sure screws connecting heating element to wires are very tight -- otherwise they will arc.

MER687BAS WONT HEAT BOTTOM OVEN ONLY BROILS IS IT JUST THE ELEMENT?

Steps to check element. TURN off breaker that feeds oven. Unistall bottom element in question. With a continuity tester see if element has continuity. If it does not then element is bad, replace it and turn on breaker. If it does you need to call a technician because the next step requires voltage testings that can shock you if done improperly..

I have a Kenmore Stove and the bottom (bake) element does not heat up. The top Element is fine. I have replaced the bottom element and checked the fuses and they seem fine. Could it be a control panel that...

You could very well have an Electronic Oven Control (EOC) board problem. There two separate circuits that control the oven BAKE and BROIL functions. If you have replaced the BAKE element, and have ensured it connected properly, the only other component that controls that function, is the EOC. If you post back with your complete model number, I can double check to make sure. The model number will be located on a nameplate somewhere around the oven door opening or lower drawer opening. The reason I need to confirm is because some ranges have a separate relay control board.

Bottom element will not turn off

Your BAKE element relay on the Electronic Oven Control (EOC) Board is shorted.  I have experienced this problem before.  The board is not serviceable and (unfornately) you will have to replace it.  The board can run anywhere from $100 to $200 for a new one.  Slightly less for a refurbished one.  Prices will also vary depending on source.  This is a repair you can do yourself if you choose to do so.  If you can provide me with your model number (located inside the lower door panel), I can do some research to get a part number and price for you.  Let me know.  I hope this is helpful.

Maytag oven not getting hot enough

When you put the oven into bake it preheats with the bake and broil element both.  The broil element is most likely your only heat source if it took that long to cook the pie.  Need to verify that the bake element is coming on.  If it isn't then the problem is either in the control or the element itself.  Give me the model # off the sticker on the oven and I can help you do the check out.  In the mean time see if the bake element is getting hot.
