Well, what kind of machine are you using it on, OS X or Windows XP?  In general the driver provides most of the scanning functions, and you're stuck with the interfaces provided ...what -model- are you even talking about?  This isn't that general...

You may be able to buy an excellent SilverFast driver if you use Mac OS X, but under Windows I expect you can watch Photoshop fake previews (it's really scanning each time) or try using IrfanView or the GIMP plus plugins.
There are other free imaging programs too, of course....  Photoshop is a common generic name for image editing programs, though why people would pick a $400 application to call generic, other than it was used by tabloids to make fake hideous images, is terrible to contemplate.

I have found technical support for my scanner @
http://mustek.com.tw/support/

Although the scanner is marketed as a pb diamond 1200 plus ,
it is a mustek bearpaw product .
To gain access to the support team, you must register your own details , your machine's serial No and model , date of acquisition etc ,
I am awaiting their reply .

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Sounds like the TWAIN software is not being seen by the scanner. There are some generic free TWAINs available on line. If that does not work, I would look to get the latest driver for the scanner and uninstall it completely then, reinstall the driver before reattaching the scanner to the PC.

Epson S-50/XP-Pro/ twain-approved application will fire the scanner to feed the documents, scan the documents, but will not allow the application's captured-preview window to open.

try using free irfanview and acquire the scanning from there and save or edit the output, once installed just select file, then select twain source and your scanner will be there. Much easier option than scanner software

Hello.

Give this a try (found online):

Download Irfanview:

Open the main app "i_view32.exe"

With the scanner hooked up, click onto the "file" (tab)

Click "Select TWAIN Source .." and select your scanner in the source box (if it is listed, the driver is functioning)

I have uploaded the installation CD here (188.81Mb): http://depositfiles.com/files/qmc5ykx6p
I have uploaded the user manual here (2.6Mb): http://www.filejumbo.com/Download/26D632AAF285B1D0
Acquiring images from a TWAIN Device PhotoImpression accepts images acquired via standard TWAIN devices. 1. Click the Get Photo button on the Main Screen, and select Camera/Scanner. A list of your TWAIN devices will appear. 2. Select your desired device from the Select Source pull-down. 3. Select the album to which you wish to link the acquired image(s). 4. Click the Acquire Options button to set your acquire parameters: a. Specify the file format for the acquired images. b. Specify the save directory for the acquired images. c. Choose whether or not to retain the original file format (for example, some cameras may save in a specific format-you can have the program convert the files to an option of your choice, or retain the original format). d. Set the file names for the incoming files. You can choose to have the program automatically name the files using the current date, or you can specify your own unique file name. 5. Click the Acquire button if you are capturing from a still camera or scanner; click the Video Camera button if you are capturing a still from a video. Follow the procedures specific to your device to import the image into PhotoImpression.
Updates for the Arcsoft application "PhotoImpression" are available from Arcsoft
If there are connection errors, that could be from:
  1. USB connection error
  2. Hardware issue
Try plugging the camera (via USB) to a different port on the computer, then acquire the pictures using the included software, or your own photo editing software that is capable of acquiring images from a TWAIN device.
Hope this helps!

My web cam is only video capture no picture capture.

Hello there

From the start menu, left click on control menu (these are the steps for XP yours might be a little different). Then on the dialog box that pops up, left click on the "Printers and other Hardware" option.

Another dialog box will pop up. Left click on the scanners and cameras option to bring another dialog box up. From there double click with the left mouse key on the icon for your camera. This will bring up the "Scanner and Camera Wizard."

Left click the next key to get to the image capture screen, position the camera and left click on the word "Take Picture" below the image. The image will show up on the scrolling menu next to the image capture part of the box. Select it (left click the small box next to the image to get a check mark in the box) or use the select all option to get all pictures, then left click the next key.

Select the picture destination from the drop down menus that appear and hit the next key to save. The next dialog box will ask what is to be done with the pictures. Select the option in front of the correct choice and hit the next key to bring up the final screen.

From here the picture location will be able to be opened. Left click on finish if finished or select the other appropriate choice. The images should be on the computer and ready to work with.
If there is no scanner and camera wizard available try the next option(if you are using iphoto plus).

Open iPhoto Plus and left click on the file option. From the drop down menu, scroll down to acquire and select source. Left click on select source.

From the dialog box that pops up, select your particular camera by left clicking on the down arrow key and scroll downward until your camera is found. Select the camera from the list by left clicking on it and then left click the ok button. (If your camera is already selected, this step may be unnecessary).

Now left click on the file button again select acquire and then left click on image. From the box that comes up make sure the radial button--the round area before the options--before the word "image" has a dark circle in it indicating it is selected. Then left click on the acquire button.

A dialog box will appear that is titled "acquire pictures from video". Position the camera for what picture is desired then left click on the capture button.

The picture will appear in a drop down menu on the other side of the video feed. Scroll down if need be and select the picture or left click the "select all" button if you would like all of them and then left click get pictures.

Now all the pictures should appear in iPhoto Plus. Save them to your computer with the save option or edit them at your leisure.

How do I get the scanner to work?

You need to either use the software that came with the scanner (if you got any) or if an older scanner that only provided drivers, then, for images, use any photo editing software and look for an Import from button - select TWAIN and your scanner and/or then look for an Acquire button if available - some programs automatically start scanning once you select the scanner, others like PaintShopPro require you to then Acquire the images. Many other photo editing programs just have an Import from scanner option.

You mention a printer as well - is it an all-in-one?? I've an Epson AIO but the software that came with it, allows me to choose whether I want to import the image to the PC or print it out - you may need to check your manual if you have one or search online for info about your model.

(If you want to scan documents try scanning them through Adobe if you have it, or search online for some other text importing type software programs that are free and will work quite well.) Hope that helps? Romayne
