Kirby Sentria Hi, I have a new Sentria & used it for the first time today. It was going fine & then I could smell smoke & it started to make a loud noise so I turned it off quickly. If I turn it on it immediately starts making the noise again & I can see it is all lit up inside like something is burning or sparking. I have checked the roller & it is moving & I have checked the fan which is moving & doesn't appear to be damaged in anyway. This product is from the US & we are in the UK & we are using a travel adaptor plug to transfer from US plug to UK plug.

Thanks ol_lonely, I think you are right. I should have looked into it before buying abroad. I have someone who is going to repair it for me.

Sounds like the motor burned up. not sure if travel adapters will handle a large load like a motor, around 8 or amps. power needs in US are 110 volts ac, 60 hertz.
I believe UK is 220 volts and 50 hertz.
usually when a vac is brought to europe you must change motor.

KIRBY ISSUES! :(

sounds about right you should change that type of belt every six months to a year regardless if its broken or not. one other thing you should do is make sure the brush roll itself isn't bound up it should spin freely if not you can pull the plastic ends off the roller to clean any hair or thread out .

Kirby making clicking noise
Posted by jenad on Jun 12, 2008
In the middle of vacuuming my car out, my Kirby Sentria began making a loud clicking noise, sounds like it's coming from the motor. It's never done this before. I checked for debris in the fan and removed the bag and checked there too. The vacuum still works, just not sure if I should continue to use it.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The clicking noise sound s to me that it is coming from the motor like you said and I am not sure how new the Kirby vacuum is, but if it is still under a factory warranty it is a good idea to have Kirby take a look @ the vacuum because it could be the fan, carbon brushes or something could be hitting the armature making a clicking sound and if it is the armature then I would get it check ASAP. Feel free to contact your local factory authorized Kirby dealer in your area and also I will give you the website and the customer service phone # to Kirby for further assistance. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
