Question about Proform 650 Crosstrainer Treadmill
Normailly there are 2 system:
1) Manual, see the belt if there are defective,try to put a Little LUBE it,since has a LOT of mechanical stress. Replace it if Necessary.
2) The small motor in the system, can be faulty or broken, replace it.However test the batteries if the system have, clean the contacts batterys, with special liquid clean contacts cleaner, and tight very well the connector, and clean too.

If you purchase from a store I would take it back and exchange it, or if you purchased it on line then the manufaturer and have send somebody out to take care of this situation you have a warraty on the unit

If you can hear the adjustment motor running the problem could be related to two things:
1. Broken or stretched resistance adjustment cable.
2. Broken bracket for the magnet return spring.
If the resistance is on maximum all the time the second issue is most likely the cause.

Their is a sensor within the incline motor casing that may not be functioning thus causing the motor to repeat the cycle. You will most likely need to replace the incline motor.

Open the rear part where the "guts" are. The magnet will be stuck against the wheel that turns when you pedal because the cable that the resistance motor pulls to remove the tension will have too much slack in it. The cable probably came off of the pulley wheel that is used to providing the necessary tension to pull the magnet off of the wheel.
To get the case off, simply unhook the right side pedal, remove the 4 bolts holding on the crank thing to remove it, then using a philips head screwdriver, remove the screws in the screw holes on the case cover. Be sure to remove the one screw on the other side near the front in order to allow the front part to "unsnap".
