Out of balance

My Maytag Performa washer is acting like it is constantly out of balance. The clothing is evenly distributed. It likes to shake quite a bit. Any suggestions on what I can look at to fix the problem?

We are having the same problem with our machine, a PAV4 model. With certain loads it walks all over the floor. Flooring shouldn't be bad because it's brand new construction but this machine did it in its previous location. Sounds like Maytag should have a recall on these machines because ours has been doing this since it was brand new. Snubber replacement sounds expensive and I'm not that much of a handyman. Bad design evidently. Think I'll e-mail Maytag and complain.

I had an appliance man come in and he used a type of wrench to adjust the little round disc leg on the bottom of the washer so that the washer would not rock (evened out the washer). This has stopped the travelling.
No one adjusted it when I bought it so it always travelled (when you buy a stove, the delivery men adjusts the legs to be even).
The shaking also caused something to come loose and the guy repaired that as well.
I actually had the repairman come in to fix an overflow problem when the washer was started - it overflowed before the wash cycle started. He unscrewed the back of the top, lifted it off and replaced a clear tubing.
He popped open the top of the washer by using some kind of screwdriver (placed it between the top of the washer and the front of the washer and lifted forcing the top up).
He then checked inside behind the tub and saw that something at the back had come loose from the shaking caused by the travelling. He tightened it and now the washer is working fine.
I don't know the technical terms and how everything works but hope this is somehow helpful if you want to DIY.
I have been disappointed with the Maytag as it is only two years old and my parents' worked like a charm for over 20 years.

Have the snubber ring replaced
the reason i say HAVE IT REPLACED is to get to the snubber ring the machine has to be dissasembled and requires special tool to get it apart and back together

Washer shakes during spin cycle

Sounds like the washer is off balance, washers have leveling feet you should adjust 1 or all until when u push the washer it does not move.If you still have this problem it could be the wash tub itself, always make sure when you load your washer to evenly distribute your clothes too.Hope this helps.

Maytag performa washer during spin cycle tub is making loud banging noise and continues even when clothes are evenly distributed

This sounds like the transmission is going. Better get another washing machine other than a Performa.

Washer shaking very bad

It's very likely your washer is out of balance. The load has shifted and is not evenly spread throughout the tub.
Stop the cycle, open the lid, move the items around so they are more evenly distributed and that should solve the problem.

I assume it is not balanced. Try putting sponges under the feet of the washer.

Maytag performa off balance

Check the vibration dampers and the plastic mounts for wear. They should be solid to the machine.

Maytag performa washmachine

You could replace the snubber ring and springs,, if you love the machine, and make sure no grease is leaking. It's a lot of labor. These are not the real Maytags of the past.

Maytag Performa

This is the lesser-expensive model of the Maytag lines, and rumor is that another company contracted to build them cheaply. Also, I read in the consumer-review opinions that this model shakes and walks a lot. Even with new motor mounts. To answer your questions: - Yes, it could most likely be saved. If you give a repair tech enough money, they can perform miracles. - Should you buy a new one? Yes, you should. Even if you repair this one now, it will break down again in six months. And again after that. And so on. I'm sorry to tell you this, but it was just built that way...
