The first thing you must make sure of is that you internet works coming out of you modem.

Hook your computer up to the modem using the Ethernet cable (looks like a large phone cable)

If you can access the internet using this method, half of you problem is solved.

The next half it to make sure you can communicate with your router. Plug the router in, wait for 10 seconds until it boots, then using a unbent paperclip, press and hold the rest button for a full 30 seconds. (the reset button is hidden but accessible thru a small hole close to the power cord on the casing.
Once this is reset, all previous errors are deleted, and the unit will be as blank as when you bought it.

Using a different cable, connect one end to your computer and the other to any of the 4 ports on the router. (Do not hook it up to the port that is offset, this is for the modem connection)

You should get a light on the front of the router indicating you are connected to it (in the port you port the cable)
Bring up your browser, and in the address bar type the default IP address for D-link devices;
Your router's internal web page should come (default log in if set is usually " admin ") or there may not be one.

There is a setup wizard on the internal interface once you log in. Follow the steps carefully and write all of your passwords down.

Good luck.

Hey there.
You probably have set up your router wrong, try resetting the router and configuring it again. If it still doesn't work try directly plugging in the WAN cable into your computer and see if it works. If it doesn't you should check with your ISP.

Have fun :)

Power down your router and computer. Wait 15 seconds, then turn on the router first, then the computer. If this doesn't work, you can also try rebooting the modem as well. You will then need to power all three down, then start with the modem and wait a minute as it boots up and runs its auto-tests, then the router, then the computer.

My comp has been going offline over and over again during the last few days. The internet company says we've been online, so it must be a router problem. Any suggestions on what to check?

Try unplugging the router waiting 15 seconds and plugging it back in this tends to fix a lot of router related problems, if this still doesn't work there is usually a small reset button on the router that you have to push with something like a paperclip. Hold that button in until the router lights flash to perform a reset to factory defaults on the router.

Are the lights suppose to be flashing

The WAN lamp should blink whenever you are accessing the Internet.

The WIRELESS lamp should blink at a fixed rate.

Each of the LAN lamps should blink whenever that computer is accessing the Internet.

My wireless router doesn't work!

Your ADSL or Internet should be turned on, if not, you may pay your ISP bill, or your ISP didn't give you Internet access.

Don't have internet connection

This particular 8-port Ethernet switch/hub has auto-negotiation on both speed as well as MDI, MDI-X.  Therefore, the problem is not with your switch/hub, it's probably with the particular port that you're connecting it to on your Router.  Make sure that it's the LAN side, not the WAN side.
