My Frigidaire Freezer is not getting cold and the fridge is higher temp then normal.

Hello,

I read your problem and a lot of times when it is running but not cooling it can be as simple as just cleaning the coil. Take off the bottom back panel. (make sure you unplug fridge) and once you get the panel off, look in there if you see the hoses/coils dirty, they need to be cleaned and use a shop vac to really clean it and sometimes I will use a can of that compressed air that people use for computers. ANYWAY, if it is at all dirty, it needs to have a good cleaning. IF your compressor motor is real hot, then it has overloaded. In other words, its working to hard because of the dirt build up. A lot of people say, hey my compressor is running, but its not getting cold. Most the time it is running, but not at full capacity because it is dirty the coils and vents etc... Now, you have to let the fridge compressor cool down completely after you have cleaned it real good, then plug back in fridge and keep an eye on temp to see if it gets cold like normal. IF not, then what needs to be checked or replaced is the starter relay and most likely the capacitor. that is the switches the plug right into the compressor. You trace the wires that go to the compressor, and you will notice it hooks into a couple parts that plug into the compressor, that is your starter relay and capacitor. This can be replaced yourself. But first lets try the good cleaning method. AS a note: even though the compressor is running and if it is cleaned and still does not cool, the starter relay and compressor could have gone out, and those parts are designed to kick start the compressor at higher amps to have compressor operate at full capacity. I hope this helps you. Mike from fixya.

I have an gss221ibma side by side. the freezer no longer freezes but the refrigerator works. Also around the doorframe of the freezer it is quite warm and sometimes hot. please help.

Hello, pull the unit out away from the wall remove the cardboard or metal cover down the bottom which will give you access to the compressor area. Assure that the compressor fan motor which is the fan that cools the compressor is running if it is not then you will have to replace the compressor fan motor. Unplug the unit until the compressor cools if you leave the unit plugged in for a long time you can cause damage to the compressor itself. . If you do not have another place to store your food until you get the new compressor fan motor leave that cardboard or metal panel off the unit if you happen to have a large box fan put it in back of the unit this will cool the compressor until your new part arrives. I have had to wait 8 days for a compressor fan motor at one time and the customer I repaired the unit for had no other place to store there food. Note this fan has to be constantly running on the compressor until you are able to replace the compressor fan motor. If you have any further questions message me back Thanks
Rick
p.s make sure you have your model number when you order your part I tryed looking that model number up but it did not come up on the look up site if you need me to locate the part number that you would use to order the compressor fan motor message me back the make and exact model number of your unit Thanks again

Please advise heating/cooling capacity for carrier quietline air conditioner vertical through wall model 25 years old model number unknown Thanks

Hello rgar919,

It is imposible to tell you the capacity of the unit without some kind of numbers to find out what it is. They made more than one unit 25 years ago. The numbers off the compressor may help to find the size of the unit. Please try and find some sort of model or serial number, compressor number, fan motor number something that can be cross referenced.

Thank you for choosing FixYa.

What is the A/C Compressor Oil Capacity in a 2002 Dodge Durango with the dual system?

The system oil capacity (Total- if all components replaced or flushed) is 10.0 oz. Manufacturer oil proceedure for the compressor alone is to drain and measure oil from the old compressor (make sure to turn shaft a few times to get it all out) and add the same amount of new oil to the new compressor. Chrysler says that you must use a sp15 PAG oil.
Note that you must flush the entire system when replacing the compressor in order for the warranty to be valid on the replacement part. Also require is the replacement of the drier assembly.
Have a great day!

The compressor on my Whirlpool wbm46 fridge is cutting out on overload. The compressor is running very hot and trips on thermal overload and then restarts once cooled down. The fridge is only 3.5 years old...

Hello there:
first you might want to have the compressor recharged with refrigerant these hermatic units will over time loose some of the refrigerant and will need to be recharged and this would be a lot cheeper to do than replacing the compressor if your warranty is still good i would use it ok?
best regards michael

Frigidare window air conditioner with remote control about 3 yrs old. All controls seem to be working except when the energy saver mode is suppose to shut down the unit / the display goes dark but the...

Hello, I can assist you.

If the unit is supposed to turn off and it doesn't, it will be necessary to check several things.

  • First, is the unit cooling properly? See the section entitled "The air is cool but doesn't seem cold enough."

  • Next, is the temperature of the room adequately cool? If the room temperature is cold enough try setting the thermostat to a higher temperature. If the unit then seems to work properly leave the thermostat set to the higher temperature.

  • If the unit is cooling properly when it is turned on and the room is not cool enough the problem is probably that the unit is trying to cool an area that is too large for its capacity. Use the following chart to find the appropriate size air conditioner to use:

AREA TO BE COOLED / CAPACITY (BTU/HR)

100 to 150 square feet = 5,000

150 to 250 square feet = 6,000

250 to 300 square feet = 7,000

300 to 350 square feet = 8,000

350 to 400 square feet = 9,000

400 to 450 square feet = 10,000

450 to 550 square feet = 12,000

550 to 700 square feet = 14,000

700 to 1000 square feet = 18,000

If the room is heavily shaded, reduce needed capacity by 10%

If the room receives a lot of direct sun, increase needed capacity by 10%

Add 600 Btu/Hr for each person in the room if there are more than two people

If the unit is for a kitchen, increase the capacity by 4,000-6,000 Btu/Hr.

If the room size is too big for the air conditioner you have two possible choices. Either decrease the room size by shutting some doors or partitioning off an area of the room. Or, increase the BTU of the air conditioner for that room by installing a different air conditioner with a higher BTU rating.
