Question about Epson Stylus RX500 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

COPYING Sounds like all the cogs are grinding and all we have done is change the cartridges (genuine cartridges) Before that the printer worked beautifully.  What have we done wrong?

Start the machine with the lid raised so you can see the print head. I think you find the drive belt for the head is going round but the head is not moving. This makes a dreadful noise and sounds worse than it is.

Make sure the cartridge carrier lid is closed and not stopping the head from moving. Next thing to look at is the head lock. If you look behind the drive belt with the print head at home position you should be able to see a white bit of plastic poking through from behind the rail. Use your finger, a pen, screwdriver or whatever and just push the white back through the rail

Check that the head can be moved by hand and power the machine on and off a couple times, just to make sure the drive for the lock is not broken.

Colour has stopped printing completely after short period of wrong or pale colour. Have changed cartridge.

I would try a genuine hp cartridge just to check. it sounds as though there is no air in the cartridge giving the effect of sucking on an almost empty bottle of water. Usually attributed to lousy compatable cartridges.. i bet with a genuine one in there all will be well.

After changing theblack ink cartridge in the DX4400 the printer will not print, i have `run` through several copies only to get `faint horizontal lines` on the copy paper, would you have any idea what i...

Do you get the lines when copying only or when printing as well? If you only have the issue when copying, then the scanner part of the printer could be the problem. If the issue happens when both copying or printing, then the issue more than likely resides with the printing mechanism of the printer.
I'm not familiar with this printer model, but here's a few things to check:
  • Remove the ink cartridge and re-seat it into its cradle. While it's out, make sure there's no left over tape covering the nozzle of the cartridge (like HP cartridges have).
  • Epson ink cartridges include a microchip inside them that monitor the ink levels of the cartridge. Once the ink gets below a certain level the cartridge will no longer work. If this is an older cartridge, the issue could be resolved by getting a new one. If this is a brand new cartridge, it could be that the cartridge is faulty or that there is an issue with the printer itself.
Good luck! -Ingo

Did you use Epson Genuine Cartridges?
ALL…. Epson & Brother Requires Genuine Cartridges. !!!!!!!!
That sounds like your problem.

In Purchasing Epson's CX 5400, CX4600, & CX7400 and more, I found out that Epson does not like Generic Printer Cartridges. I also Purchased a Brother MFC-240C All-In-One InkJet Printer. That also does not like Generic Print Cartridges. Color that should be Yellow, will turn out Green, Blue Brown, etc.

These printers have a CHIP that will detect if it is Generic or Genuine. When they see it’s Generic Cartridges, it will print lines thru the words, stripes across the picture and also do a mix match with the colors. It also will not let you print anything, if only one of the cartridges is empty.

I wanted to print only Black, and would not let me, because I did not have any ink in one of my cyan cartridges. Go figure.

That's what these Companies do., so they can keep selling the ink cartridges. Some Printers, are able to use Generic, and some are refillable. Some you can refill them up yourself and I heard, quite MESSY.

So I learned, thru trial and error, that you must use the ORIGINAL Genuine Cartridges for these PRINTERS. Some people say some models work fine compatible, but not mine.......

I had to replace the printer, but Epson, Lexmark & Brothers are always on sale. My Brother & Epson cost me $50.00 with Rebate. .

IF YOU ARE USING GENERIC CARTRIDGES, MAYBE IT WOULD BE BETTER IF YOU DISABLE THE INK MONITOR.

This is the only advice I can give you.

The next step would be to disassemble the Epson, and clean the Pads/Heads. Click on link below.:

I located a page on http://www.fixyourownprinter.com forum, which had plenty of details about similar issues.

Makes grinding sounds & usually prints blank

Try new toner cartridge, or even the old one if you still have it. Check if the grinding noises go away.
