Hi jmsocr2315,

If my description of what your heater is doing please read through to the end.

The heater is turned on and a room temperature is selected.
You can hear the noise of a small fan start, which shortly after the heater starts.
After a short period of time the heater stops and the red led begins to flash and shuts itself down.

This type of heater has a balanced flue, which means it draws air in one pipe and exhausts it out another.
Have the balanced flue checked for blockages, the problem will most likely be in the flue pipe which draws the outside cool air into the heater and not the flue pipe which blows out the hot air.
it may be full of cob webs or something else which restricts the air flow to the heater.
A service person can perform a quick test to prove the above theory. At the rear of the heater there are two pipes, one is an insulated metal pipe and the other is plastic pipe.
Disconnect the plastic pipe from the flue box and restart the heater.
If the heater runs normally this will confirm that there is a blockage.

Runs for about 1-1/2 hours (on either lo or hi) and shuts off. will not restart. try again in the morning and it starts... want to return as it's the first time to use and it doesn't work!!!!

heater has an oxigen sensor,if it i used in a small closed room and oxigen levels are getting low, heater will shut off for safety reason. Try to open doors or windows for a while and see if heater restarts.

I have a RV Atwood water heater and it ignites and starts ok but shortly thereafter it shuts off. I wait a minute or two and it restarts but shuts off again. Could it be the circuit board, or the sensor in...

You may have a control board issue, there is no sensor that is IN the water tank your thermostat controller are exterior to the tank under the black foam looking piece which I think is where your trouble lies

It makes a thumping noise when it stops running.

As the manufacture says to us techs, get used to it, sorry thought I would throw that in there. This is a common complaint, it thumps once or twice shortly after it shuts down. What is going on here is this, your frig will run til it either reaches the temp you have set or til it's time to go into "defrost" mode (does this about every 8-12 hours of actual run time)", then it will shut down, turn a "heater" on inside the evap area. The sudden change of temp causes a "thump" noise. They have changed these boxes up due to energy requirments, so the have to make the heater a little hotter so that it does its job quickly and then shuts off. Now, you need to make sure that the thump is not right after it restarts, if it is then you have a "dryer" that needs to be covered and the screw removed from the side of the cabinet where it mounts. Sudden expansion of the cold freon in the dryer causes a thump also, removing the clamp, sliding the dryer over a little will normally cure thump.

Neptune mdg3000aww starts heating and runs fine but stops heating shortly after start up can restart heater starts again and shuts down

If the machine keeps running but just not heating you have a thermostat issue. It could be the operating therm. or the high temp limit therm malfunctioning, shutting off the element.

If the machine stops running completely, check the door switch.
