How do I update my maps. All I have is the cable that connects from the USB on the back of the GPS to the cigarette lighter in my car

If your power cable has a usb connector on it that unplugs from the cigarette lighter plug then you use that. If not then you'll have to get a usb cable with the correct end on it to match your GPS unit.

You need to plug it into to the cigarette lighter or your pc. I take mine in the house and connect it to the pc to charge, but it will charge with the cigarett lighter too.

The nuvi is being put into mass storage mode (the mode used to transfer data back and forth to a computer). This is usually caused by using the wrong vehicle power cable.
The correct cable is Garmin part number 010-10723-06.

Recharging the battery is done by connecting the nuvi to a vehicle power cable in the car through the vehicle power accessory outlet or cigarette lighter.
The unit can also be charged via a powered USB port off your computer via the USB power/data cable or an AC power adapter through the USB power/data cable.

Yes the European cars are pretty much the same as the American cars. You will be able to plug into the cigarette lighter socket and charge your satnav.

you need a Garmin USB data cable that you can buy at Best Buy,then connect GPS to your computer and go to garmin.com and download the newest maps for a fee.

I have the same unit, and I even bought a new battery for it. After the resudal charge on the new battery wore off, it would not charge.
I now use it exclusively plugged into the cigarette lighter. When I need to update the maps, or the software, I use the USB cable.

I am still trying to get the tech manuals on it.

I had the same problem. When you have your nuvi plugged into your cigarette lighter it doesn't charge. Your battery is probaly near dead. I called Garmin and they told me to plug it into my computer via the usb cable. Turn the Garmin off and let it charge for several hours. That did the trick

try connecting it to your computer via the USB cable, sometimes that will reset it. If not, you may have a warranty issue.

Tom Tom GPS only brings a car charger and a USB to Mini USB cable that allows you to sync with your computer. For more info on your specific unit visit the Tom Tom site. You can also download the needed interface software for your unit at their web site. The USB cable isn't very expensive if you need to replace it. And once you have it, you will be able to update maps or download and install maps for other countries and even some fun voices if your unit supports it.
Download the software you need first and then connect your TOM TOM. Follow the prompts. Install any updates and you should be okay.
