Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

Sharp R-520LK table microwave. Stopped heating but the timer still works, counts down, can be set. Just the oven doesn't heat and table doesn't turn. Is there an internal fuse that could be blown and, if it is, what are the chances it will happen again if fuse replace because magnetron pulling too much power, etc. About 3 years old.

Straight to the point. Parts would cost nearly what new microwave will cost. Appreciate the honesty and not trying to sell parts that would lead to further frustration. Out to the garbage with the old one! Thanks,

I have looked all over this website for "rating your answer" to no avail. I added a positive comment in this thread, but, is there a location for rating? It shouldn't be that hard to find!!

No, no fuse or other customer accessible parts in there. Most likely in your case the inverter board (the one that powers the magnetron with the 5000 volts) has failed and that has damaged the high tension side of the power source - hence the table not turning.
The oven is repairable, just that it will cost for the parts alone more than what you would pay for a new one. 4 years the the average life of an oven this days so yours died a little early, but not by much.
When you will go to buy a new one try not to get one made in China.

Mbbs 01 thermador micro oven: timer counts down, lights go on, but no heat, no fan and turntable does not turn. is it a fuse?

Key clue is table does not move---All microwaves with a table have a lever switch that is engaged when door closes--only can get at from inside the unit----it prevents the unit from operation if door not closed.

What happens from closing door a lot is the switch with a lever arm can come loose or even if snapped into a plastic holder break out of the holder.

IF this it is not too expensive a repair.

there are fuses in your microwave but they dont normaly blow unless there is another fault,
the fuses are not the normal house size fuses and are quick and slow blow types plus a high voltage fuse,

Sharp R-1460A Timer counts down very rapidily and no heat

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Had problem with Sharp R-520L. Microwave suddenly

One of the door switches is the problem. Open the casing, and you should find the schematic diagram. Find the switches, and test if you can. If you cannot - replace all of them except the monitor switch.

Timer works, but no turntable no fan and no heat. Light comes on when I hit start but that is all.

Chances are that the magnetron has stopped working. Unless it is under the guarantee or is a very expensive micro it really wont be worth fixing.

You need to trace the power feeding the high voltage transfomer. Because the table doesn't turn, it implies that a door switch or safety interlock is the problem.

No Heat

This is probably due to a bad door switch, most likely the top one. The microwave got hot because the cooling fan was not running. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your model number here: http://www3.sears.com/
