Water and Ice Dispenser shorts Fridge

2005 GE side by side: supply and filter good. Intermittent and low flow H2O. Ice maker works great, will not dispense. When attempting to dispense, light dims, fridge compressor shuts off, occasional water, occasional no H2O and dispense panel shuts down..no lights ect. after a few minutes, comp. restarts. Repair guy says "maybe the mainboard is shot, if not maybe dispense board." "Not sure...good luck.." HELP!!!!

FIXUM1; my refrig was indeed on the list for MB replacement. Unfortunately, the repair man I paid to check it out was not "factory authorized," but the Gentleman that is authorized, was able to corroburate the problem and is ordering the parts from replacement program. GE is footing the bill for all! Also, a tidbit to add, apparently the GE engineers miscued with the dispenser light watt feed. Once I removed the dispenser light, the ice dispenser magically started working! However, the compressor shuts down when you dispense. Looks like a MB, dispenser board and light with lower requirement are in the near future. Thanks. Much appreciated!

Just to follow up on this item....even though it's about a year later...and to help those that may have been searching for the same problem.... I had the exact issue as detailed above. I called the GE 1-800 number and described the issue. The person on the end of the phone did not really need all the detail - they just wanted to dispatch the call. I asked about the faulty motherboard - they did admit to a MB problem but did say the technician would have to verify. I asked about the cost if this was the issue - they said it would be $100 service call, no charge for the part. So, to cut to the chase, the technician showed up today, replaced the motherboard, and the cost was indeed $100. The fridge is about 3 years old by the way. Thanks for all the help - this came to a quick conclusion for me!

Why is my GE (ZFSB23D SS) side by side refrigerator leaking at the back corner, near the rear wheel where the plastic water line goes in?

If the tubing is plastic it could have cracked when you moved the tubing to install the filter. If the tubing is OK then possinly the filter isn't all the way in or is leaking.

Door dispenser not working

Is the ice maker working properly? There is a water filter in the refrigerator through which both the ice maker and water dispenser are supplied and over time it will slow down the flow and eventually block. Have you changed it recently? Often, ice cubes will get smaller as it blocks and the ice maker will also quit.
Also, have you checked the water supply line that goes to the ice maker and water dispenser? It should be a small diameter copper or plastic line that connects to the back of the refrigerator.

Water dispenser and ice maker are not working, water supply to refrigerator is ok.

Check / replace the filter. Many fridges have a filter readily accessible from the fresh food compartment. The filter should be changed at regular intervals for best performance. A filter that is never changed will reduce and eventually stop water flow through it.

Check the temperature of the fresh food compartment near the filter. It may be "flirting" with the 32 degree mark. If it is this low, water has turned to ice - and will stop water from flowing. Bump the temperature up a tad to see if it solves the problem.

Lastly, the water supply solenoid may have failed. You didn't provide the model fridge - so I can't give specific info about it - but many fridges have one or two solenoids at the rear of the fridge for water supply and ice makers. You should hear a clicking sound from the rear of the fridge on many models when dispensing water or when the ice maker cycles on. If one has failed, you may expect to pay about $15 to $50 for a replacement - depending model.

Typical GE Refrigerator Single Solenoid Water Inlet Valve "WR57X10033"

Solenoid valve replacement is pretty straight forward. Usually all the is needed are some simple hand tools and a rag to pick up spilled water. Make sure the water supply is shut off and unplug the fridge before attempting.

If my answer was helpful - please rate it. Thanks & good luck!

WATER DISPENSER NOT WORKING

It might be that you have a restriction at the water supply line serving the fridge. Check it for good flow (have bucket and towels handy!) If supply line is good, then move onto the fridge to check the water inlet valve(s). as newer models have 2 or 3 inlet valves, a main water valve for the entire unit, and possibly one each for the ice maker and water dispenser past the main inlet valve (solinoid).

You can check these by simply shutting off the main supply to the fridge from the house water line 1st, and then removing each water line from the supply side of the fridge and seeing if you have water flow from the house to the valve side. If you do, then reconnect the lines to the fridge valves and see if you can get water flowing to the other side of the solinoid/valve when you have someone try to get a glass of water from the water dispenser, etc.

It is possible that there is an obstruction in the lines, by not very likely. Normally it is a failed water valve(s) (solinoid) that causes low flow or complete loss of flow, especially if you've changed the fridge water filter or replaced it with the "cap" which eliminates filtering of the water.

It is that you'll likely have to replace at least one, maybe more, of the fridge inlet water valves. If you have the time, try to zero in on the failed one by bypassing each, one at a time, until you get water flow. That way, you'll only have to purchase just the replacement valve needed to get things working again.

Low flow from water dispenser

If there is a filter on the unit, change it. If not, then sounds like the screen is clogging up. You will need to pull the unit out and remove the water supply line and take off the adaptor to access the filter screen and clean it...

Low flow from water dispenser

hi, this can be because of the filter. when the water is flowing threw the filter, it is sent threw many channels inside the filter before it reaches the dispenser. this slows it down a bit. this is quite normal but, if it's slowed down to a dribble, i suspect a water valve malfunction or you may need to change the filter.

Water coming from the dispenser is very slow

hello from fixya, most important is the supply shut off the water undo where conects to the refer.put inside a bucket/pot and turn on water you should have a great flow.if ok there you could move to filter but the water valve could have a mineral blockage and is harder to test.you would have to undo the out put side of the chilled water then hit the water cradle.etc.. on the ice maker.also a thought.if ice small and water slow.may be filter if had good house supply.hope that helps.God blessyou house, tom

So your not getting water from the dispenser either??? Yes the water filter can be the source of your problem. Let me know if the water is coming from the dispenser.
