Question about KitchenAid 24 in. KUDI01FLSS Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

My dishwasher filter keeps getting plug up with large food particles. I take it apart and clean the screen. It works for a 2-3 -4 weeks before I have to do it again. There is a spinning fan on the screen. I'm wondering if this scrapper fan is working at all. If it was I think it would keep the small screen free from particles. The first thing that happens is the top cleaning arm stops working.' Thanks

This dishwasher has been absolutely great when I have filled it with dirty dishes. I rarely (if ever) have to scrap and wash the dishes prior to putting them in the dishwasher. I still feel that the fans that is suppose to dispose those small particles on the screen is not rotating therefore not doing the job it was suppose to do. There is a mechanical problem wrong with it because you can't tell me after 5 years of perfect clean dishes I will now have to scrape and prewash before putting them in the washer. Give me some diagrams of what that fan is attached to that makes it grind the food into smaller pieces and then the water washes it through the disposal. thanks again... Judyy

Hi Judy. The only way to know for sure is to power up the fan independent of the machine and see if it still works. In the meantime, rinse and remove all debris from the dishes prior to placing them in the machine, including pots and pans.

This method will give you much more sanitary washing either way. Also, always run the hot water into the kitchen sink until it is hot before you push start on your dishwasher. Joe

Before the plates or dishes are put into the washer the larger food remaining must be removed/cleaned or wiped off so that you will not have the filters gettingg clogged often.
The scavenger fan must work to push off all the dirt into the filters after it is pulverised.
Make sure that there are no dirt accumulation, use a good air jet/water jet to clean the filters and the fan for the free movement. You can also make sure if the fan connection to the controller is working fine.make sure the connectors are tight , if not the controller can be faulty.
Finally this seems not a serious issue if you can be a little careful to clean the washer often so as to prevent accumulation of larger food particles.

How to remove large food particle trap in a electrolux dishwasher model # EWDW6505GBO

Good Morning Friend,

I understand you want to know how to remove large food particles that are trapped in your Electrolux dishwasher, model# EWDW6505GB0. First, I would suggest that you scrape away large pieces of food before putting any dish in your dishwasher.

Your dishwasher is equipped with a state of the art wash system. Periodically, the Glass Trap Filter and Large Food Particle Trap may need to be cleaned to maximize wash performance. The Glass Trap Filter is located in the center of the Large Food Particle Trap. The Glass Trap Filter is designed to collect pieces of broken glass, straws, bones and pits. To remove items in the Glass Trap Filter, grasp the handle, lift out, empty and replace. Hope this is helpful.

-Best Regards-

Asko dishwasher filter at bottom of unit collects food waste - how do you clean?

Keep in mind that there are two filters:

Coarse filter
The coarse filter collects large food particles
which cannot pass the outflow pump.
Lift out and empty the coarse filter as
necessary. Don't forget to replace it!

Fine filter
The residue which collects on the fine filter is
automatically rinsed off with each wash. The
fine filter should still be cleaned once or
twice a year.

1. Remove the fine filter by first turning the
filter's tubular strainer anti-clockwise and
then lifting it straight up with the coarse filter.

2. Clean with a dish washing brush. Ensure
that the edges are properly sealed

Download the manual and go to cleaning page.

Our dishwasher is only 4 months old. Sometimes there will be small particles of food left on some of the plates. Also when we wash glasses in this machine they are cloudy or dirty looking.

There are several reasons that the food can be left on the plates. If the washer filter is plugged (partially) then the food particles can remain in the tub and be re-deposited. This can also happen with a dirty sump. According to the specs, your filter is self cleaning, and has a food disposer. The link to your machine is here:

I think, in your case, a good cleaning would help. When the disposer isn't working well, the screen can be coated, and needs to be cleaned to be efficient. Your manual, accessible from the link above, (then select specifications, scroll down to another link) recommends a vinegar wash and is described there.
For heavy duty cleaning, you can (in this order): Add 1/2 cup of salt, 1 cup of baking soda, and 2 cups of vinegar. Spread the ingredients around the screen, one at a time, at the bottom of the tub. It will begin to foam. When it has quit foaming, add 2 cups of bleach, and run a hot cycle (Pre-heat the water by running the hot water faucet closest to the dishwasher until hot).
Best regards, --W/D--

When my Kenmore 665 dishwasher is done with the cycle, the glasses on the outer areas of the top rack have stuff stuck to them. Almost like the jet spray is clogged and spraying the garbage. My...

I do believe most manufacturers recommend emptying the strainer after each wash (much like you would a lint filter on a clothes dryer). With the door open, look inside on the bottom. You should see a plastic cylinder shape about 2-3" in diameter. Twist it counterclockwise and gently pull up. This traps large pieces of food, and the occasional piece of plastic wrap, toothpicks, etc. that seem to get past the kiddos when they load it. If you find large amounts of food particles, I suggest pre-rinsing pots, pans, plates before placing them in. Good luck, and please keep us informed of the progress on this concern.

Food particles left on dishes

Many times this caused by food particles clogging the screen or blocking the jets on the spray arms. Find the screen in the bottom of your machine and clean it out. If this doesnt help, remove the spray arms and clean them out.

Food particles clogging up drainage system at bottom of dishwashe

Take it apart. Clean large particles of food off before placing in unit. You might try a little Clorox and wash at hottest temperature while empty first.
