How to Fix Registry Errors and Optimize PC?

The Windows registry is a database that stores settings and options for Microsoft Windows operating systems. It contains information and settings for hardware, operating system software, most non-operating system software, and per-user settings. The registry also provides a window into the operation of the kernel, exposing runtime information such as performance counters and currently active hardware. Registry is so important that Microsoft suggest users not to edit it, or it will affect some functions of the system even cause system crash.

The most common registry error is DLL errors. If users frequently install and uninstall software, it can also leave some wrong uninstall entries in the registry. Some anti-virus or anti-spyware will false report and destroy DLL file of some soft ware. Without DLL file, the program will pop up some strange message and can’t run. Also, Control Panel can’t remove DLL files of soft ware. If these DLL files stay in registry, this will cause system errors. Day by day, registry is full of junk files and the computer will run slowly and...

What Are Registry Errors & How Do You Fix Them?
The Windows registry acts much like a brain. It is responsible for storing certain information required for all your programs to turn on and function. Registry errors can be problematic, but they are usually no more than a nuisance. With the right knowledge and tools, these problems can be repaired quickly and easily.

Registry Errors and their Causes
Errors often are caused by unnecessary or errant files on your computer system. For example, installing an application leaves a registry entry that allows the program to work. This can cause problems to the registry on startup. Similarly, if you remove a program incorrectly, it essentially leaves a trace of itself behind. Certain malicious programs, such as viruses and spyware, are sometimes designed to cause registry errors that are difficult to repair.

Computers are complicated machines, and just because your computer is not running well does not mean the problem is in the registry. Knowing the symptoms is crucial to understanding registry errors. Check your computer's overall performance. If the computer seems to be running significantly slower than usual, sits suspended with little activity or frequently freezes up, there is a good chance your registry is to blame. Also, you may notice that it takes a long time to start, or in the most extreme case, will not start at all. Listen for a beeping noise when you shut down your system, because this often indicates a hacker or virus affecting the machine.

Registry Cleaning Tools
Unless you are a professional, it is not recommended that you try to fix your registry manually. Luckily, there are many user friendly programs designed to resolve registry issues. They work much like an anti-virus program, scanning your registry for errors and fixing them. Software Industry Report recommends RegZooka, Registry Easy and RegCure as its top choice.

Logically, the best way to fix a problem is to prevent it from happening. Ken Smith has a few tips for reducing the chance of registry errors. First, make sure you correctly uninstall unused programs. This means you should either use the uninstall tool provided with the application or the Add/Remove Programs tool in the Control Panel section of Windows. Second, run regular virus checks and keep an eye out for harmful programs. Third, do not illegally download copyrighted programs or games from dangerous websites. These applications often contain viruses that could damage your registry.

How to Fix Windows Error Code 19

f your computer's CD or DVD drive appears to be missing or corrupted and you've received a "Code 19" error message that says "Your registry might be corrupted," you can fix it by following some steps to modify the Windows registry. Note that while this process isn't particularly complicated, it does require that you are familiar with computers and know how to modify the Windows registry. If you aren't comfortable doing this, you should seek the help of a qualified computer professional to assist.

1. Click the "Start" button, click the "Run" option and then type "regedit" and click the "OK" button.

2 Use the navigation pane on the left side of the window to navigate to the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10

How To Fix Registry Code 19 Errors

The Code 19 registry error is caused by a system hardware failure. The failure occurs because the computer is trying to use two drivers for the same device on the computer. When you try to boot your computer, you will get a Code 19 error message that will lock you out of the computer. You can resolve this error by using the Safe Mode option

1. Start your computer and then press the "F8" key while it is starting up. This will take you to the "Advanced Boot Options" menu. Scroll down to the "Safe Mode" option with the arrow keys on your keyboard.

2 Press the "Enter" key and wait for the computer to boot into Safe Mode. This should take about 45 seconds to complete. Click the "Start" button when the computer has booted and then click the "Run" box.

3 Type "Regedit" into the run box and press the "Enter" button. This will start your registry checker tool. Wait for the registry checker tool to complete the scan. This should take about one to five minutes to complete. When the scan has completed, you will be prompted to restart your system.

4 Click the "Restart" button when prompted to restart your computer. The computer will restart as normal and the Code 19 error will be fixed.

The Windows registry is a large database that contains the settings and configurations for hardware, programs and applications running on your computer.

Hi amitabh2610,

You need to install the Memory Card Reader Driver in the Computer to fix the issue with the Mass Storage Controller. Below are the links to download the Memory Card Reader Drivers for your Computer model. Please open the below links in a new Internet Explorer window to run the files.

Please download and install both the files in the Computer. Also, please make sure that you restart the Computer after each installation for the settings to take the effect. Installing these Drivers should fix the issue with the Mass Storage Controller issue.

Let me help you with the issue with the CD ROM Drive now. amitabh2610 , you will need to edit the System Registry to resolve the issue with the CD ROM, this issue is due to the corrupted registry. Using the Registry editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require the operating system to be reinstalled and can result in the potential loss of data. Hence, it is recommended to backup the Registry before editing it.

To backup the System Registry,

Open the Run window and type regedit. Then, in the Registry Editor Window, please click File and select "Export". Select a location to save the file and name it as Registry Backup. Once you have created the Registry Backup, you can proceed with Editing the Registry.

To edit the System Registry.

In the Registry Editor window, in the left pane , double-click the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder first, then System folder under it, then CurrentControlSet, then Control, Class and then select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} folder. Now, in the right pane , right click the UpperFilters registry value and click Delete. Then, right click the LowerFilters registry values and click Delete. In the Confirm Value Delete dialog boxes, click the Yes button. After that close the Registry Editor window and restart the Computer.

This should fix the issue with the CD ROM Drive.

Good Luck!

My feiends Dell Net book is very slow, I set the system back and Installed AVG removed Mal Wares it ran good, When i took it back it went to running very slow again~!! So do I have to wipe it and...

There are many free and effective registry cleaners. You can use Ccleaner (which I highly recommend). You can download Ccleaner from here (click here). It's bundled with System Cleaner, Registry Cleaner and other utilities. Run the System cleaner and the registry cleaner. Check the startups and also verify all the services from the Task Manager.

Sometimes some virus can't be removed if they really infected some files, in that case, you better reinstall the windows (full format), but remember, during the backup or file transfer, don't simply copy/paste, instead use the wizard like "backup" or "Files and Settings Transfer"..

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

Sony vaio vgn-fs775p laptop real time clock not keeping time

thank you for your query

If the time is not keeping up then it would seem that you will need to change your CMOS battery, this is a small battery found on the motherboard responsible for clocking etc

The battery is cheap to purchase, however I do highly recommned the laptop be booked into a reputable PC shop for replacement as you will need to take the whole laptop apart to get the motherboard

I hope this has been helpful

I did a scan and I was told I have 325 Registry problums. I am disabiled on SSI I can no paid for repairs . Please Help this one legged Nam Veteran: ThankYou: Mike.K. Morris

Hi Mr Morris,

In part i agree with juyruyrfiujh, You don't have to worry much with the majority of registry issues, only ones that have been effected by virus's, malware etc.

Most standard issues are related to missing fill types and program shortcuts if you have uninstalled a program or updated your computer and unused registry entries.

Personally is use a cracking FREE registry/system cleaner called "CCleaner", with this software you can clean the registry, temp files, temporary internet files, you can disable start up programs to make the system quicker

Download CCleaner from here >>>>>

When you have the application installed double click on the desktop icon, a window will appear like this >>>

Click on the registry tab then select "scan for issues". When it gets to 100% click on "fix selected issues", a window will appear like this >>>>>>>

Click on "fix all selected issues", for first time use of the program it will ask you if you want to back the changes to the registry, it's imperative that you click on yes because if you don't the computer will not remember the changes and no registry issues will be fixed.
Repeat the process until no issues are found remembering to back up to the registry each time.
The cleaner tab cleans your temp and temporary internet files.
I recommend you explore CCleaner as this software is a very useful tool used by computer technicians like myself world wide.

Good luck and please post back if require anymore advice.
