Question about Computers & Internet
Using windows xp service pack 3 but the audio is not working, in device manager it is showing pci device driver not installed (intel d945gcnl desktop board)
After a lot of testing and talking to Intel (really nice guys, but they couldn't help), I figured out the following procedure which worked for me:
0. Update BIOS
1. Format and partition the hard drive.
2. Install the Operating System with Service Pack 2 (at least) embedded on the Operating System Installation CD.
3. Once Windows SP2 is installed, proceed installing the latest Intel(R) Chipset Software Installation Utility
4. Install the rest of the drivers
5. Once the Drivers are installed, proceed upgrading to Service Pack 3.
I'm not sure if the BIOS update was necessary or not, and you could probably do it after installing Windows XP SP2, for convenience, but I haven't tested that.
All drivers and BIOS updates used were the latest from the Intel web site (below). I did not use the Intel PAT (Platform Administration Technology) software or BIOS.
After the above, I have a working Windows XP SP3 install with audio...
Intel downloads are at:
I hope that saves a few people a lot of trouble! :)
