2003 Ford F250 Super Duty Crew Cab Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 03, 2010

I have a 2003 F250 Ford Superduty 3/4 ton 4 wheel drive, 6 ltr pickup. On a recent purchase of diesel fuel, I fould that the fuel had been infiltrated by water from storm water in the area where the fuel station was located. I went to a nearby Oil and lube service where they drained the fuel from the two filter locations and replaced both filters. Shortly after leaving the facility, the symbol on the instrument cluster re-lited. I was away from home, so I continued to drive the vehicle using the fuel down as low as possible before a refill. This did not help. Upon returning home, I took my vehicle to my normal mechanic. He dropped the tank and drained all of the balance of the water/ fuel and replaced the upper and under cab filters and added about 6 gal. of fuel. By the time I had driven about a mile. the Water in Fuel Light relit.\r\nWhen I arrived home, I decided to disconnect both batteries in order to possible reset the Water in fuel light. I did this and the reattached both batteries. Upon cranking the truck and idling about 2 minutes the water in fuel light reappeared. What else can I do to correct the problem?

We took our 2003 F250 in for service because of this and the sensor had gone bad! Once replaced we haven't had a problem.

Hello, Your sensor may be too sensitive after all the water went through. If the truck is running well, the filters must be working. There are some additives which help disperse water in Diesel fuel.
Disconnecting the Batteries was a good idea, but I am sure there are good additives at some busy truck stops. You can get some of the same stuff at Autozone or Oreillys, but they would not know like a longhaul Trucker would.

So I bet the best additives and advice will be found at the Truck stops. You might want to check with your Car Insurance company for coverage as the water problem was storm related via the drains and you are speculating thats the source. Could it as easily be Vandalism? Locking fuel caps may help. For what you spent and may continue to spend, an Insurance claim may be a good solution.

All you can do now is secure the tanks and pour the additives to it.

Glad it was simple to fix, still you must have wasted some expensive fuel to clean the tanks.
Thanks for using Fixya and the update.

03 ford superduty 6.0L diesel starts then dies only after sitting all night

You probably have an air leak in the fuel line. Air bubbles rise to the top-most area of the tubing and form a "vapor lock" . Find the leak, stop the problem! IT's probably a loose connection somewhere.

Ford f250 stalls when driving down the road,

What year... What engine? need info..... If it is a diesel with 7.3 L engine it is most likely the cam sensor. When it cranks does the tack work? that is another sign of a cam sensor It is on the front of the engine just to the right of the harmonic balancer top side. Replace it with a black one. Also could be in your IPR if diesel.

I have a ford f250 superduty 2003 diesel. It started to run rough when ideling. also slow reponse when you take off. I have just changed the oil, air filter, both fuel filters, and drained fuel for...

Sounds like an ECU issue.  check your fuses, see if you can get an error code from a scanner, they have one at most checker auto stores that you can use for free.  Could be a Intake Air Temp sensor or a Throttle Position Sensor.  Thats what I would start with.  Good luck.
