Just go to the Manufacturers website. Look at the MOBO and see if it has a brand name and a model number. try googling it.

Once you get past the hurdle of finding out eh model number, look for the Mobo chipset drivers or just the audio drivers by themself. Install them and see if it works.

Also check, it could be simple. That nothings muted, you have everything connected right as far as speakers and what not. Play a sound file while switching out the speaker Jacks and playing with the volume controls.

You can try the windows update and if your lucky they may have some updated driver for it that you dont have installed.

If it worked before then it should work now, Do you have the Original installtion CD for the MotherBoard?

If so, run it and install all the drivers again to be sure.

Good luck.

Chikaasia is right. Itwould help to have some PC specs or atleast the mother board specs. Or, you can go to your PCs manufacturer's website (HP, Dell, etc) and go to the support area to locate the sound river. If it is a ustom built PC, then go to the mother board manufacturer's website (Asus,ASI, etc) and from there you can locate ther sound driver from their suppoer page. I hope this helps a bit, if not, then give us some specs and we will forward you some links. Thanks.

Hi:
socket 478 motherboards are getting harder to find. You should shop around at www.newegg.com or www.tigerdirect.com and even www.pricewatch.com

You might find an economical board, or a cpu/board combo that isn't much more to upgrade to.

How to ID CPU compatibility?

You should try to find the manual of your mobo. Search the manufagurer website for the same model number. It usually lists all compatible CPUs.

Socket 478 is for Intel Pentium 4, Intel Celeron, Celeron D and Pentium 4 Extreme. But that doesn't mean your motherboard supports them all. You should still check the manual.

problem is, no one really makes 478 motherboards anymore.. so it will be difficult finding one with close enough specs to use same OS, when trying this there is no This will work or will not work" basically you are going to have to try your luck with one and if it works, it works.. if not.. tough luck.. you want to stick with same chipset, same socket and same ram type.. usually if i get those the same i have been able to start windows on the new board OK.. but like i said you will have to try it and see theres no guarentees with this kind if thing microsoft dont recommend it
