Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

When printing text a distortion across some lines shows. I have gone through all the cleaning, aligning etc that the program has preset, including deep cleaning.

This is for a Canon PIXMA MP160 Printer/Scanner/Copier.

  • coughlan Jun 15, 2008

I don't think it will be the ink cartridge, as I have had this happening for some time and have been through several ink cartridges. However I will try once again perhaps.

Distortion - If you could imagine a white line drawn from left to right through the text, giving a broken print in the text. It is possibly in a coloured picture, but not so noticeble. There can be up to 3-4 lines effected sometimes.

I imagine it could within the alignment, as there is one section when doing the check, that does not have a selection to choose that joins as a straight line.
But how do I fix that also.

  • coughlan Jun 16, 2008

Thank you boopar for your patients. No I have not tried changing the box that seats the ink cartridges . It does not appear to lift out easily, is there a knack to it, or should I check out the manual for this to be done correctly?

Would using recycled/refilled cartridges perhaps be my problem? I will do some checking as I have 2 new ones on hand.

  • coughlan Jun 16, 2008

Well I think with experimenting I have found the problem is using the recycled cartridges.
after finding 2 new ones printed well, although there was a little shadow, but I have found the both new and recycled cartridges very wet around where the ink comes out.
It looks like this might be a problem I have to check out now.

With only one recycled cartridge and one new one, the print was no good again.

So the one big question I must ask, although we are advised to not use any other cartridge than the same products, when using recycled cartridges, can they actually do harm to your printer, or will it be just like I have found, in the print itself.

  • coughlan Jun 17, 2008

Thank you for your help, which has fixed my problem,, and I learnt some very interesting things about printers and inkjets too.
Here I thought changing the inkjets wouldn't help, but by doing so, made me realise that I had been using recyled ink cartridges, and by chance making the change with an original, found the problem wasn't there anymore.

    thanks again folks.

  • coughlan Jun 17, 2008

I bought the Canon printer, because my old one, a Lexmark Z32 was actually doing the same thing with the text..

Since I have not discarded it to date, I think I had best check out my cartridges in it first.
thanks for passing on your knowledge.

  • coughlan Jun 18, 2008

    Windows XP
It is a while since I used my Lexmark but I do know the print had a similar look to what I was experiencing on my initial canon problem. so would be good to know if you think it could be a known issue with these printers.

I have a Lexmark Z31. It has new ( not recycled ) cartridges.

When I print text from word and excel the alignment is all over the place.

I have tried resetting the alignment, cleaning the nozzles, printing test pages - nothing has worked.

Any help you can would be appreciated.

You have to understand that there are two types of inkjet printer.
    Therma piezo.
Yours is thermal- That is the Cartridge contains the print heads[jets]
models come complete as part cartridge[yours]
Any way the jets are tiny tubs thinner than a human hair inside whitch there is a heater. on command from the printer the heater comes on thus 'boiling' some ink which makes steam which puff out a spot of ink.- Incredable but true.
Eventually groups of jets ;burn out' so no longer deposit ink.

When this happens it is time to replace the cartridge.
It has passed its useful life span

You did not say- it would be useful to know
what computer operating system do you use?
There are known issues with Vista with older printers.
The Lexmark Z32 for example is one such.

When printing text I get extra lines or dots of ink next to or under the printed text

It sounds like you have lint on the bottom of the print head. ttle fuzz balls will collect down there and they catch drops of ink and leave little lines as they go across the page. buy an Epson head cleaning kit on ebay. It will include a cleaning fluid and a special foam tipped cleaning wand. Do not use a q-tip.

Doesn't sound like your printer hardware. Try printing something other than your text document. If the page comes out clean/perfect then it means your printer is having a problem understanding your text document via print program translation. Otherwise try converting your text to pdf and print a sample page, if it works then again problem with software/printer translation.

Printer creates horizontal lines across paper that are either blank (no ink) or skipping/sliding looking blurring and distorting the text in that spot. This has been going on for a month. Changing...

The print-head is like a paint-brush -- brush sideways across a white-coloured wall, and you should get a wide "band" of paint. If only half of the paint-brush has paint on it, then only half of that "band" on the wall will get painted, leaving a horizontal strip of white showing through.

So, launch the Canon software that is installed on your computer, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to unclog those ink-jets that are _NOT_ shooting the ink onto the paper.

Hi, my Epson 2100 is printing with faint lines at regular intervals right across the page. I've done various alignment tests and cleaning tests but can't seem to clear the lines. Any advice much...

Are your alignment tests show good results? If they are, try head cleaning 3 consecutive times without printing nozzle checks. After 3 head cleanings do the nozzle check. If problem persists try printing at BEST PHOTO or whatever is the slowest print setting for your printer. Good luck!

White lines across text on Canon MX700

It sounds very much like a failed printhead or printhead driver; the circuit that controls which jet is addressed or left blank.

Either your ptint cartridges are exhausted or u need to take the printer to the Canon Care Centre as the carriage or the logic board might be faulty.
