Question about Epson Stylus Photo R300 InkJet Printer
The printer is printing on a4 paper but printer canot print on cd printing fails every time tried.
A common issue with the R300 once it begins to age is that dirt builds up on the exit rollers. The exit rollers are responsible for pulling out the paper when in normal mode which is not much of an issue if the rollers are dirty. After all they helped by the rollers at the paper intake which also push the paper.
When it comes to feeding the CD caddy, the feed rollers have to have a certain amount of grip to maintain the timing tolerances required. if the rollers struggle to feed the leading edge of the caddy in good time - an error occurs.
Solution number ONE:
Clean the exit rollers with a little soapy water on a DAMP lint free cloth. Rotate the rollers (which are hard to get at if your hands are bigger than those of an infant Rhesus Monkey!!) as you clean them to ensure a good all over cleaning.
Solution number TWO:
The white marks printed on the caddy are required to be seen by the "magic eye" on the underside of the print head. If the white marks are dirty the eye can't see them, looses the location and progress of the feed and panics. The result is the error message. Clean the white marks using soapy water and don't rub too hard or you'll scrub the marks off !!
It is also possible that the "magic eye" under the head is covered with ink. This is much harder to solve and if you feel that this may the cause, get back to me and I will sort you some more inclusive info.
Solution number THREE:
The leading edge of the older versions of the caddy had a thin transparent strip attached to it. If this strip gets a decent crease or "nick" in it, it will not feed through the rollers. Check the caddy you have for the clear strip. The newer version does not have the strip but instead had a shallow bevel to the leading edge.
If your strip is badly creased or bent, straighten it as best you can. You may find simply giving the caddy a nudge as it starts to feed solves the issue. If so, look on ebay or other site for a new caddy and you should be sorted.
