How do I connect my element to an antenna? I have used a satellite connection but cannot get some local channels I'd like.

Hi Norris,
Check the TV user's guide and find out if your TV has a digital tuner because nowadays most over-the-air channels are digital. If your TV has a digital tuner then It would be able to decode the digital channels.

HDMI input works ok. Hooked up external antenna. Did channel scan. It will only scan for analog channels. Has analog raster on screen. It has no information on menu page for digital channel scan.

do you have the air option in the scan menu see
http://tv.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/sanyo/dp42841.html
page 9 important fact cable digital gets wiped by air digital channels

You may be able to get around this via a digital hd tv decoder box and then have it on a hdmi input on the TV as a backup to the cable if you can't have both cable digital channels stored and aerial digital channels stored

Wont find channels on auto channel search

Ensure that you have a good connection to your antenna/cable/satellite, and that you have selected the proper signal type in your TV menu.

If you are using a cable box or satellite, you might need to search for an analog signal on channel 3 or 4. If your cable/satellite box outputs an HDTV signal, then search the digital channels. If you are using an antenna, search for digital channels and set it the TV to Air in the Channel menu.

Digital channels are not working

If your TV is connected to a "cable" box, e.g. you're using cable TV ... then it is the cable TV box that determines what you can get (based on your cable subscription). Yes, I know that some cable TV and satellite TV service providers will only deliver HD digital channels when you pay an additional (monthly) fee for HD digital channels.
If you plug the cable directly into your TV (i.e. not use the cable box), you may be able to do a channel scan on your TV, to pick up the digital channels ... but you will loose the convenience of using the features that your cable box provides .

I cannot retune my samsung tv- model no LE37C53CF1W- COULD YOU ADVISE HOW TO RETUNE, mANY THANKS, Jim Lauder

Hi,Does the icon look like a large satellite dish?
Make sure your TV is on "TV" and not "DTV" before retuning.

To re-tune analogue channels:

I have a Samsung TV and that icon is not accessible from the menu if i am watching the tv on the digital option of my remote. You have to switch your tv to the "tv" option on your remote and you will be able to access the icon from your menu.
(on your remote, you should have a button with TV/DTV on it)

To re-tune analogue channels, if you want to re-tune digital channels, then look for the "D MENU" button on your remote. Press this then scroll down to the icon that looks like a large satellite and then on "Auto Store" This will re-tune your digital channels :0)

Take care and hope it helped.

Get dish network to work with hp SR5505F COMPAQ PRESARIO COMPUTER

You can not change channels on Satellite with your TV tuner card. The satellite box decodes the sat signal (it is sent encrypted) you can run S-Video/RCA/HDMI depending on the video card input, but you will be required to change the channel on the Dish box. The TV card can only change channels on broadcast (over the air) channels, you can attach an antenna and it will use the NTSC tuner to change analog channels (if they are still available) and the ATSC tuner to change digital/HD broadcast channels. This card (from your description can ONLY deal with broadcast TV, You will need a TV card with a QAM tuner for unscrambled digital cable. There is no solution for directly interfacing with Satellite on a PC or Mac (DirectTV or Dish) the signal from the satellite is encrypted and requires (at least for DirectTV, a fairly complicated decryption setup to function, this is handled by the tuner box/card combination. Sorry your setup will not support changing the channel on the PC, you may be able to find some kind of software that can utilize an IR transmitter to change the channels on your satellite box, similar to the way a Tivo or other DVR can talk to cable boxes, but that is the best you will be able to do as far as channel changing.

All we are getting is a pixilated screen and no sound. Dvd's play normally

OK. This should be simple. If you are using a TV with a built in digital tuner like all the HDMI ( High Defintition Media Interface) flatscreens then you probably need to go through your set up menu on your Digital TV and select Initial Setup / Channel Input / Cable / Satellite if coming directly from a dish on 75 Ohm Coax / or Cable if coming directly from the outside 75 Ohm coax with analog signal. ( When I say DIRECTLY, I mean you are not going through any boxes and changing or passing the signal). All satellite direct connects are digital and all satellite converter boxes have multiple out puts these days. There is an HDMI output for high def and low def analogl to digital (A/D) signals coverted within the TV, sometimes there is a DVI or even a USB out put connector...and there is a 75 Ohm coaxial RF cable connection for all the old schoolers who do not have a widescreen digital TV. RF means Radio Frequency and uses Radio Frequency Channels 3 and 4 at the bottom of the RF band around 56 MHz to which any TV with an Analog Tuner can use. In the old days this is what was used for the connection to the TV from the cable boxes because our TVs did not have the capability of decoding analog pay channel signals, hence the little black boxes sold and used ONLY by cable thieves and not any of us here on fixya. For starters, let's make sure you are using your high def, dvi. or some format of digital It sounds like your TV is set up to search and code digital signals but is looking for the wrong carrier frequencies, meaning it is either looking for decoded digital satellite box signals, digital broadcast ( New Digital TV received via an Antenna). Once your TV scans for channels in the cable mode they will be memorized and available on your channel up / down keys and Favorites. (FYI t will scan for both digital and analog channels on antenna mode). Repost if you have troubles or refer to your users manual.
