Apparently you have your answering machine switched off. Since you declined to specify the model of your Uniden system I can't tell you how to switch it on. I can only direct you to select it from the list beginning here to download a copy of the manual.

I recently got this old "Panasonic Easa Phone KX-T2835" from a thrift store and my phone only rings twice before my answering machine picks up. How can I make my phone wait till 4 or 5 rings before it...

Have you tried erasing all the (incoming) messages on the machine? Does that let it ring the full 4-ring-cycle before it picks up?

It's been years since I owned one of these, but there should be a switch (on the side of the unit?) for a feature called "toll saver" If you find this, switch it off.

The idea was from the days of payphones -- if the machine had no messages, it would ring 4 times before it picks up. If there were messages, it would pick up after one ring (or sometimes two)

If you were out on the town and wanted to check your messages, you'd put your dime in a payphone and call home. If it rang three times, you can hang up the payphone and get your dime back, knowing there's no message to check.

How do you remove a recorded answering machine message

Settings:
In Settings dialog you can set the following options for Best Answering Machine:

* Greetings - allows setting up the greetings played on pick-up;
* Active in profiles - defines in which profiles the application will pick-up the phone and record messages;
* Storage - allows selecting on which disk the records will be saved;
* Pick up after - sets the time after which the call will be answered;
* Record time - maximum amount of time the message is being recorded;
* Format - message file format (amr,wav);
* Icon - configures the visibility of the icon displaying application activity and presence of new messages; depending on this parameter, can be shown in standby screen only (Phone application) or in any application;
* Play volume - play volume for the greeting;
* Records lifetime - automatically removes old messages;

Messages:
In this view you can listen to new and old messages, delete unnecessary messages, send the recorded messages and call the person directly from this view.

During the call:

When Answering Machine is processing an incoming call, you will see a dialog showing the application's progress with the ability to stop it:

* Answer - when this command is chosen during a call, it stops greeting playback or message record and you can continue talking to the caller;
* Hang up - stops greeting playback or message recording and terminates the call; hope this will be helpful...

Answering machine is not picking up

Some machines have a setting for outgoing message only and will not accept a message in this mode. Check your owners manual to see if this may be the case and set it up to accept messages. In addition, if you have too many old messages on your machine, it will not take anymore until you erase some old ones. Good Luck to you.

Fax feature

You have to set the printer to pickup 2 rings higher than your answering machine. If the answering machine picks up on 4 the printer should pick up on 6.

I believe the menu should be Setup button - down arrow key until you see basic fax setup and press ok - down arrow key until you see rings to answer and press ok - change to 2 higher than answering machine.

Now you should receive faxes and calls!

The fax picks up every call

Most fax machines are set-up to pick up all calls. There isn't a way to know you are receiving a voice call until the fax picks up and doesn't hear the tracer signal that kills our human ears.

You could change the number of rings it takes the fax machine to pickup the call. If you set it to the max, you would have plenty of time to pick-up. this option is normally part of the settings on the machine itself.

The only other options are to unplug the fax when you aren't expecting to receive a message, or get a dedicated fax line. It depends on how much you use the fax.

Hope this helps! Please don't forget to rate the answer!

Machine features

It is for "toll saver".

If you are out of town and want to check your messages, you can call your machine and it will only pick up in 2 rings if you have messages waiting and 4 rings if you don't. This saves you the long distance charge when you call to check your messages. You will know after 2 rings wether you have messages or not and can hang up if you don't.

GE Telephone answering machine will not work

I'm assuming this is a digital recorder and does not use a tape. Any chance the memory is full and you need to erase messages to free up space for new recordings?
