If there is a Air leak then the pressure would drop down and make the pressure switch active to let the compressor start up to achieve the set pressure level when it will cut off.
So if the air is not used and still the compressor is starting up then the system must be checked for leak, possible in the line or filter or the connected equipment.
listen for the hissing leak and plug the leak. If however the compressor is starting up otherwise the pressure switch can be faulty.. poor tension spring settings which is releasing the contacts .
