Question about Canon LV-S3 Multimedia Projector

No power light, won't turn on

I loaned my LV-S3 to a friend and when he returned it it doesn't work. Before I make him buy me a new one, I need some help. The power light does not come on at all. Is there an internal fuse that could have blown? If the bulb is out, will this projector not work at all? I do not want to buy a bulb if that won't fix the problem. Please help.

After sending the projector back to Canon, they charged me $250 to reset the button. I wish I would have received this response sooner, but thank you very much. I will know what to do next time. Thanks again.

Based on Best Solution posted Sept. 3rd 2008, I was able to resolve the problem I had with my projector. I was beginning to think that I needed to junk it or just bang it around as a last resort, but just at that moment I discovered a the posting that lead me to a quick positive answer.

Thanks A Million I was beginning to miss it.

My LV-S3 suddenlystop working, with the power cable plugged in and everything
There is nolights what so ever, Just completely dead and wont turn on at all.

I spoke toa person that fixes canon projectors.
He saidthat the LV-S3 is a very compact projector (and it is in deed) It builds upheat and has a protection system inside.
It’s a heatactivated thermal switch that needs to be reset.

So this ishow you go about it.
The LV-S3has 2 thin silver plastic sides that you need to lift out with a smallish flat screwdriver,it just lifts up and slides out.
Very easyto take out , underneath the to plastic slides there is 2 screws on each side, remove them, there is also another screw on the back of the PJ that
You need toremove.

Carefullylift the cover off, Note there is a cable connected to button control panel onthe cover to the rest of the PJ.

You don’t needto remove any screws that holds the board and everything else, about in themiddle there is a black switch hiding underneath the
PC board, close the where light bulp sits, mine was coverd by a black spacer sponge that Ineeded to remove, just pull it its glued.
The switchis black with a pin in the middle with a white dot in the middle, press it witha screw drivers tip, If you press it and it goes down.
Then youknow that it popped out and did over heat and you are in luck, close everythingand switch on.

Hope thishelps.

Fixed my problem of it not starting - THANKYOU. symptoms were turning on then off in warming countdown at about 25sec. the button that has the white dot is not on the green board it's to the side of that. The button is about the size of a tictac pointing upward on top of another barrel shape about five times it's size. it was under clear plastic in my Canon LV-S3 projector, to the left of the green board looking at it from the back. hope that helps as I had trouble finding it.

Meant to say cant find any fuses sorry for the confusion

Posted on Sep 02, 2008

Hi. I also have a LVS-3 and its not turning on at all.

Ive opened it up and can find fuses, I'm not amaized because the power supply is not based on a transormer but more like a PC Powersupply, using a bunch of components to get voltages to the correct amount.

Any way

I spoke to someone that repairs canon projectors apparantly if you take out the bulp there is a termal reset switch that pops out or something if it over heats.

I cant confirm as i'm going to try this tonigh.

I'm the third with the same problem! An older projector of  mine had the same symptoms when a filter was ajar, and another time (and projector) this happened with a fuse.
This is happening to me now with the LV-S3, and I cant figure it out!
Is there a fuse inside somewhere deep?
please share any solution! -yum

How do you change the fuse on lv-s3 cannon projector

The main fuse is on the power supply unit/section and so you need to remove the main panels to get access to the power supply. Normally if the fuse is blown the chances are that the SMPS- swittch mode power supply - has failed and so you might need to replace or repair if the components failed is within limit.
please check this link for tips:

Replace the fuse only with the rated value. Before the projector is opened, the lamp must be safely removed and kept aside, Take all precaution not to touch with bare hands and to replace back into the holder with care.

I have a Canon LV-S3 Projector that has a blue discoloration that seems to grow after a period of being on, when left off for a while (30 minutes) it will shrink back down to a small 2" x 4" (W x...

What you describe is caused by heat from the lamp. That in turn is caused by either a very old lamp, (as the lamps age, less light comes out and more heat is generated), blocked filters, dirty fan blades/fan not cooling properly or contamination of the LCD units.
It is not recoverable and will, unless the fault is found, get worse up to a point of total lack of one colour. Usually the blue is the one that suffers most due to the UV light from the lamp turning into heat.

Never heard of a heat reset. If the unit is completely dead. investigate lamp, and or lamp door interlock switch.
