Loading the line is confusing because there is no arrow on the spool (despite what is written in the directions) but there is an arrow on the cap that points counterclockwise. However, disregard the arrow on the cap. As written in bold letters on Figure 15 in the manual, both lines are wound CLOCKWISE as seen looking down on the top of the spool. This works.

What is an ISO or ASA? where is it on my Minolta Maxxum 400si

There should be a button that says ISO on it, or just a set of arrow buttons. ASA/ISO are the same thing, and indicate the speed of the film being used. 100/200/400/800/etc. Not setting the camera to the proper setting will result in dark or light images.

If you can't find your ISO setting, try searching Google for your model and you should be able to find a pdf download of your manual for free.

My Canon Powershot SD880 sometimes takes pictures that have 'ghosts' or litter spots throughout the picture. This happens more often in dark settings and at night. Any ideas?

This is normal behavior when shooting in low light. Just like when someone is speaking softly into the phone, you may turn up the volume on your end. Any background noise, you can now hear more.

Similarly, when there is low light, the camera turns up the amplification on each pixel. Some pixels naturally have a bit more background noise than others, and these show up as bright spots. A higher ISO setting where the camera is more responsive to light is where this occurs.

At a high ISO, taking a picture of pure black shows up as a mottled grey with a few bright spots for pixels that have a lot of noise.

You can overcome this if you have a tripod - set the camera to manual and a use a lower ISO setting. Rotat the selection wheel to M for manual and then press the ISO (just above the function set) button to scroll through different ISO settings.

Photoshop and other programs have noise reduction tools and a tools to remove "hot" spots as well.

Delay in photo being taken after pressing the button

You can adjust the ISO speed to control the sensitivity of your camera's sensor. To do this, press Menu, and then press the left and right arrow keys to go to ISO Speed and press up and down arrow keys to select from Auto (default), 64, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600. You may need to play with it until your desired output is met.

Can't change ISO setting

You could scroll to sensitivity in the menu. However, to get the numbers you want, you'll need to switch to manual instead of auto.

How to adjust the ISO from 100

All of the AUTO ISO settings would be harder to figure out if you couldn't set an ISO range for the camera to use, but with the K20D you can:
  1. Press the Fn button
  2. Press the right directional arrow to select the ISO setting
  3. Set the ISO to AUTO
  4. Turn the front control dial to set the MINIMUM ISO the camera will use
  5. Turn the rear control dial to set the MAXIMUM ISO the camera will use
In this sense, you can set the AUTO sensitivity of the camera to range between ISO 100 and 400 or even ISO 800 to 6400 (if you so desire).
Of course, this assumes that you'll want to have this level of control over ISO, aperture and shutter speed.
If you don't have a good command of these controls and really never want to, then the K20D has a ton of modes and features that you'll simply never use.

Canon 430 EX flash problem

Were you indoors? if so, take the ISO of AUTO and out it on 400. Leave the camera set like you had it, Manual 1/60 @ 5.6. Do notuse evaluative metering. Use single spot metering or the smallest center weight setting.
