I changed my Belkin Play N600 to strictly an access point, and now i cant access the settings again

Disconnect the router from the modem and switch off power to the router and after a couple of minutes restore power again.

The router's user name will have remained the same. If you have changed the router's password you need to press the reset to restore the factory default.

If you need any kind of technical assistance you can contact support cell at http://www.vtechsquad.com

Are you trying to reset the router password or wireless network password?
Wireless network password is different than router access password.
To change the wireless password, you will need to access the router page and change the settings.
See how to find wireless network password
To change the router access password, you can log in to router page and go to administration tab. There you will find the place to change the router password.

How to change my password?

It is pretty difficult to help you without knowing the BRAND and MODEL of your router, BUT here are generic items that should be addressed.
There are a couple of areas for passwords, the access to the programming of the router, as well as the wireless access....

Wireless Router settings:

It is usually easiest to run the install wizard, which you can get from the manufacturers' website, usually for free, but be sure to be ready to set the items listed below:

To get access, start your browser, and put 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1, or other address for your unit, into the ADDRESS bar (not search box) of your Internet Browser. Every unit has unique access login and passwords, some are admin with no password, some are admin and admin...seek access information from the website of the manufacturer of your unit. Look under support, downloads, drivers or similar sounding areas.

Things to set:

(Note: Routers are intended to be set by geeks. You have to SAVE EVERY page before you leave it, or the changes will be lost. A geek knows this (apparently). The router gives no protest...just dumps your changes. SAVE OFTEN.)

1. Login password (RECORD THIS!!). Consider taping to bottom of the router. Physical access is typically NOT the security issue.

2. Set a recognizable system ID (descriptive name is easier to find when you need to connect wirelessly).

3. Invoke wireless security of at least WEP.

a. Assign your own access code, 10 digit home or cell #. Consider taping this information to bottom of the router. (Physical access is usually not the security issue.)

4. Check that your router is set to broadcast its' presence.

5. Change the channel of the wireless to 11, and avoid conflict with landline cordless phones. (Big issue, even the neighbors can interrupt).

There are more secure settings available, all the way down to only allowing certain MAC addresses to have access. A MAC address is a digit unique to each and every network card. Like a fingerprint. Most users do not set mac address limits.

I want to change password for wifi network

1
Open up an Internet browser window on your computer system. To gain access to the default settings, type in the default IP address of the wireless router in your Internet browser's address bar and press enter. You must refer to the wireless router's documentation or navigate to the manufacturer's website for the correct IP address.

2
Type the default user name and password in the security dialog box that appears, then press Enter on your keyboard. Because different router manufacturers use different default user names and passwords, refer back to your router's documentation or support webpage for the correct information.

3
Navigate through the router administration pages to find the wireless router's administrator password settings. Change the default user name and password to a unique set so that possible unauthorized access to your router settings will not take place. Make sure to hit "Save Settings" to complete the change.

4
Set up your wireless security settings by navigating to the proper administration settings page. By default, wireless routers do not come with a password for connectivity access. Choose the appropriate wireless security level you need and type in a unique user name and password. Save these new settings and log out of the router's administration setup.

5
Write down the user names and passwords for both network access and the administration setup page. Keep these user names and passwords in a safe place.

Thanks.
Have a great day.

How do I secure my wireless connection?

The exact access and setting procedure can be found at Belkins web site.

Disconnect all cables to the router, then, in essence you connect to the router, usually via direct connection and direct your browser to the address specified (somthing like 192.168.1.1) and log into the router. Things that you want to change are ssytem ID, router name, Router access password (RECORD IT!!!!) and set up wireless security. An easy access password would be your home phone or cell phone number. if you make a cryptic password, tape it to the router, as you will forget it when a guest visits and needs access.

Another setting to check is that your router broadcasts it's presence, usually set to yes, but not always, by default.

SAVE settings on EACH PAGE or they do not save, as you go from page to page changing settings.

Why not just reset the router to factory defaults.
I have used this router and did not need an installation disc.
I just plugged it in, opened my browser, logged onto the router, set my wireless password (WPA2).
Type http://192.168.1.1/ in the adress bar and the username you leave blank, and password is admin which is the default username and password.

When you in the setup page click the tab saying "wireless" then security, you can now change your SSID (the name you see when you search for your router)
your security type (WGA2)
And your password

Forgot wireless access code how do you change it ?

Look at the back of the router for a Pin Hole button, it is the "reset" button.

Hold the button in for 10 seconds and release. Now you can log in using the default username/password.

If you had any custom settings, they are gone now, you will have to redo them.

If you do not know the default password, use the following link to find it.
